Frenectomy?

DD's dentist eluded to her possibly needing one down the road.  Has anyone done this or know of anyone that has had one?  How is recovery/pain?  Her father has a large gap between his front 2 teeth and I fear since she's his clone she'll have the same gap.  OK, I'm not in fear, but I'd rather prevent it if possible.

DS had it done by the dentist.  It was a super quick procedure.  We avoided salty/acidic foods for a day or 2, were super careful brushing teeth and that was it.  I think we gave him Tylenol for a day afterwards and that was it.  :-)

Huh, I had no idea what this was, but Little G has it too.  DH has a gap in his front teeth, but I figured DS would just need braces.  He definitely has the frenulum between his teeth.

I had no idea either until this.  DH had braces but they didn't help at all.

My DH also had this "problem." He got braces which like mentioned didn't help but then got a permanent retainer installed. They pushed the 2 teeth together and glued a staple looking piece of metal to the back. He has had it for almost 15 years and if it breaks the dentist said they will just replace it.
