Has anyone ever stopped payment on a check?

Due to a dispute w/ someone (a service provider, not a friend, etc) If so, would you mind sharing what happened afterwards? Merci :)

  • is this about your cat? If so what happened?

you can call your bank, they'll do it, there's a fee.

  • We did with the plumber.  The pipes he "fixed" starting leaking again the night he left (Friday) and he said to come out on a Saturday was an extra fee and DH wasn't going to be home so I didn't want to deal with him and figured it was a small leak so I could deal.  By Sunday it was a river and DH called and demanded that he come.  He told us it was $125 to come over on a Sunday so we told him to go scratch and my dad drove 2 hours to fix it.  we stopped payment on Monday morning and took a ton of pictures of the problem and even made sure that there was a close up of a cell phone in a picture to prove the date adn time.  He took us to small claims court and lost.  I do know that it depends on teh situation and you have to notify them that you are stopping payment.

Yes. lol. We brought him in at 8am and asked that they give him a lion cut. He'd been there once before about a year ago, they shaved him and charged us $80. We kept calling to see when he'd be ready and they kept telling us they were having a hard time w/ him so they were going slowly and finally told us he'd be ready at 2:30. I went to get him and they were telling me how awful he'd been and that they hadn't been able to shave underneath because he attacked the woman. I totally get that, he's not good (at all) with the vet, grooming, etc. We've had groomers call us to come get him because they couldn't handle him. I wasn't able to get a good look at him because he was shoved in the carrier so I paid $75, included a $20 tip and left. We noticed he STUNK when we were getting in the car but I didn't want to subject him to going back in. When we got home, he came out of the carrier with sh!t all over his paws and his hair looked as if it had barely been touched.  I called them to express my displeasure and they told me to bring him back. I told them I wasn't going to do that to him or them. They offered $20 off my next grooming. I told them we weren't bringing him back. Then another girl got on and offered to come to our house to clean up the sh!t. I accepted but told her I still wasn't satisfied w/ how much we had paid for what they had done. She was going to call the owner and call us back. She called back and said that they normally charge $65 for grooming (washing, ear cleaning & nails) and we were charged and extra $10 for his disposition (haha) and if they had been able to do the lion cut, it would've been over $100. At that point I was pissed, said "Fine, whatever" and hung up. I then called back because I hadn't asked for him to just been groomed. He's an indoor cat, he doesn't need a bath, he needed shaving and if they couldn't do that, they should've let us know. So she said she'd have the owner call. An hour went by, no call. I called again only to be told they had left the owner a message. I told her if I didn't hear from her by 5 I was stopping payment. Thankfully my bank doesn't charge us because of whatever type of checking acct we have so I did stop payment but now I'm wondering what happens. lol.

If she had just called me back I would've been absolutely fine with paying half and letting the girl keep her tip. God knows she earned it. But don't play games w/ me.  I wanted to stop payment so I wasn't just out close to $100 and waiting on this woman to call me. I'm assuming she can take me to court for it but I took before and after pics of him and he looks exactly the same so I'm not sure what she's going to do. I was just looking for some stories to make me feel better :)

Sorry this was so freaking long!

Thank you! I'm assuming this might be what happens. Thankfully I had taken a before pic w/ my cell phone so it's time stamped and now I have a bunch of after ones on it as well. Ugh, I hate crap like this.
