Naming our kid question

So we are 99 percent going to name the baby Enzo (I wanted Lorenzo, but he didn't, so I'll compromise). I want to honor my father...his name was Bruce Louis. I think Louis sounds better, but my husband said if we're going to honor him we should do it with the name that everyone else knew him as. What are your thoughts?

So, basically his name will be Enzo Bruce or Enzo Louis

Re: Naming our kid question

  • Well I am not going to be much help, as I always go for middle names that flow nicely with the first name, so my choice would be Enzo Louis.  Seems you want to go the sentimental route which would be Enzo Bruce.  :)
  • Enzo Louis flows better, but the more obvious tribute to your dad would be Enzo Bruce. I don't necessarily feel they have to flow though. Hell, if we ever get a son his name will be John Renato. (my dad's name)
  • I agree that Enzo Louis flows better.

    Ditto.

IMO the middle name isn't so important that you should give up on a family or sentimental name (if you want).

  • I don't think first names and middle names have to sound great together when you honor someone with the middle name, but I think I'd go with Louis in this case.

  • Enzo Bruce. For the exact reason your husband says. Both sound nice but I would go with his first name.

This!  Kelsey is Kelsey Helen. In our opinion it does not flow nicely, but we were honoring both of our grandmothers.

  • If I didn't m/c last fall we decided on Julian Arthur as a boys name because that is my dad's reversed because we knew my dad wasn't well (little did I knew he would be gone as soon as it happened). My father hated his first name so that made my decision easier.

I tend to use middle names a lot with my kids, so I try to with what flows better but I think either choice is fine since you are honoring your father either way!

  • I'd go with Louis, but if DH is really all for Bruce and if I remember correctly Enzo is derived from your last name which would be part of your dad as well in a round about sort of way.
  • Luckily both work with your last name and the initials work. I like Enzo Louis it does sound like it flows a little better but I agree more people will likely know you are honoring your dad when they hear Enzo Bruce.
  • I agree about going with Bruce. but I think Lorenzo Bruce sounds better.
