cat urine odor

I'm a lurker, but need some advice.  I had to bring my kitty to the vet today and he went pee in his carrier.  He's never done this and it was all over his body.  I've bathed him and he still stinks.  What is the safest way to get him to smell better?

Re: cat urine odor

  • poor guy, carriers are scary :(  What did you wash him with?  Dawn (the blue kind) is safe to use and should get rid of the smell.

  • Yeah, I think we're both traumatized after today's events.  I bathed him with cat shampoo twice now.  He is so unhappy and I feel terrible.  I have to bring him back the vet tomorrow, so I think I'll let him rest tonight and may just bring him to the groomer after the vet if needed.  Thanks for the advice.  I'll certainly keep that one in mind!

  • I'm not sure what to wash him in, but you might want to get some Feliway spray for the carrier. It is a calming cat pheromone. We used it for J last time he went to the vet, and DH felt it helped him.

Thanks.  I'll look into that and ask DH to pick some up on his way home tonight.

I hope it helps! It is kind of pricey and the bottle is small, but you only need to use a spray or 2 about 10 minutes before you put him in the carrier.
