Nick woke up sick..he's thrown up 4 times. Last time was dry heave and some bile. His tummy is making a ton of noises. We're both up with him now but have no clues what to do. Should I give him water..are we in for an all nighter?
Re: stomach virus help
I'd give him a bit to rest his stomach then try LITTLE sips of water. If those stay down you can try a little gatorade/pedialyte. If that stays down for at least 30-60 you can try some crackers/dry toast and go from there.
Another fun thing my pediatrician said to get kids a little liquid in their bellies is to give them a cup of water and a lollipop. Let them dip the lolly in the water and suck on it. The kids think it's cool and they are, in essence, taking sips of water. (I can't remember how old your son is though, maybe this isn't age appropriate advice for him).
Poor little dude. It's been my experience that the worst of it is usually over in the first 2-6 hours. Then it's just an upset tummy but not continued vomiting for 24-48. I hope that's true for you. It's so sad when they are sick.
