Re: Any resort recs for Aruba...

  • We stayed it Riu...the only thing I found to be annoying is people that get up at the crack of dawn (5am) to save chairs by the pool...only to not sit there all day so then you're left without a chair to put your stuff on. Their reservation system for dinner is also annoying since you have to be there when it opens at 9am...and you can only make reservations for that day...not for your entire stay. Their buffet restaurant (no reservation needed) had excellent food though. As far as the limited number of chairs by the pool...I'm not sure how the other hotels are with that since we've only been to Aruba once.

  • I have heard great things about the Riu all inclusive resort.  We stayed at the Radisson
  • The Marriott is great and also the Hyatt.

  • I completely agree with the post about The RIU. Its a fabulous resort, stunning, probably the prettiest in Aruba, but the chair saving was really annoying as was the dinner reservations. I hated getting up at 6 am to reserve beach chairs and restaurants for dinner. The restaurants werent even anything extra special but the buffet got really sickening after a while. You eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there. The other thing you need to know is that the beaches are not private and any vagrant can wander on and steal which happened to us. Also the RIU blasts music all day and lots of parties in the pool bar area, its very spring break-like, which isnt us.  We were not impressed with Aruba beyond the water and the tradewinds its just a desert.
  • If you have kids, I heard the Marriott with the lazy river is great (there are 3 in Aruba...it's either the Surf or Beach Club I forget). It's a timeshare hotel so you get a kitchen which is convenient with little ones. I did a lot of research last year when we were planning to go (but didn't pan out). If anything, I'd stay in the high rise section (where the Marriotts & Hyatt are), which is further north.
  • Hyatt is great, but pricey.. stayed there a few years back and loved it.  We went this past summer with our 20 month old to the Raddison.  If you are planning to go with kids, this is the way to go.  There is a zero clearance pool that was amazing because he was able to run in and out on his own.  They had a ton of packages available when we went and we were able to have our son eat and stay free, and we stayed on the concierge floor and had a hot breakfast, snacks, and drinks daily for a very reasonable price.
