Wait, do I have an accent? GTG girls, come here!

I've been told I have a southern accent...then a Northern accent...do I have an accent? I wonder if I do and just haven't noticed.

  • Nah, you're from Kansas.  Some Notherners just think you sound Southern and some Southerners think you sound Northern, but you're actually from the middle.  I have the same problem.

  • Aren't you from Michigan? If so then I would guess you pronounce certain words that to other people sound like a Canadian accent. I only say that because I have the same issue. It's o and a sounds that people tease me about.

I lived there for the last five years, but I originally am from Kansas :)

  • To me, you're like me. Every so often I say words that make me sound like I'm from the NE because of my mom (who I call "ma" all the time). It slipped out sometimes..like an Northern accent "out", "about", etc

  • If there is an accent, it is very mild. I have not noticed but you did mention how you sound slightly different from the people you grew up around in KS.
