How do you pronounce...
Hopefully this will be less controversial. DH and I disagree on the pronunciation of this city.

And now I have this stuck in my head:
My paternal/sperm donor family is from there. We always said (and it is so wrong): Reh-fear-ee-o.
My dad (step) is Mexican and he says it is: Reh-foo-hee-o.
This is how I've always said it - and I know quite a few people who grew up there saying it the same way. So maybe it isn't wrong? Maybe it is regional?
DH says Reh-few-gee-oh. I've always told him he was wrong.

In his defense, that is how it looks, but I never say it that way. My Dad, being Mexican and all, pronounces it as it would be said in a Spanish conversation. I figure that is the correct way. I will stick with my Reh-Fear-Ee-Oh.

I'm really bored right now, obvs.
The "right" pronunciation just sounds so not like it' spelled. It doesn't make sense.
I pronounce it like all the people who aren't from there and aren't local.
Our friends in California laughed at me when I pronounced Mission "San Rafael" like san-rah-fee-EL. Evidently in northern cali, it's "sahn ruh-FELL". I told them the real people from Mexico would laugh at them. The Texicans, anyway ; )

Adding this to my geography map since I've never heard of the city/county before. I'm watching the video and he only says the name once during the whole darn thing.

That looks nothing like the Refugio I grew up in. They left off Moya's Mexican Restaurant, the Country Club and the Bowling Alley.
On a random side note, I know someone who was arrested (many times) in Refugio and actually managed to toss some seeds out of the jail window and grow some "medicincal" plants on the jail property.
I can only think of one way to pronounce that. But there are a lot of weird local things (like Burgundy being pronounced Bur-GUN-dee instead of like the color). and never mind all the names of the bayous and basins.
My DH grew up near there and calls it roo-fear-ee-oh.
This isn't just a Texas thing. I went to college in Worchester, Ma. Pronounced "Whister."
Same here. That is how I remember it pronounced on the news when we lived in South Texas.
That was always my understanding of the correct pronunciation.
Worcester, MA is also a head-scratcher...lol. Isn't there also a Gloucester?
Let's not forget Kuykendal.

That would be the proper Spanish pronunciation. I'm sure that Texans would pronounce it differently.
In pittsburgh they have Duquesne and most people not from there say
