OK, you guys suck. Here's another:

So, we probably all read about Susan G. Komen (SGK) foundation cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, right?

Well yesterday on facebook, I saw where a family member ( very strict Catholic) had linked an article to some Catholic FB page that stated, "SGK donations up 100% after cutting ties with Planned Parenthood."  He also added the note, "Thought you all would enjoy this."

This really busts my buffers, mostly because this person paid for his son's girlfriend abortion.

It took every fiber of being to stay silent on that one.

Re: OK, you guys suck. Here's another:

  • Did they link where this stat came from, because I find it hard to believe. The Washington Post on the other hand, stated that Planned Parenthood donations have been through the roof. I will find the article for you.

I've seen that PP's donations went through the roof, too.  Neither REALLY matter to me, though; it was the total hypocrisy of that individual that made me want to scream.

  • I just read an article that they reversed the decision.

That would annoy me to high hell!!

Been watching a little too much Thomas, have we?  :)

But yes, I scoffed out loud in my car on the way to work when I heard that tidbit about the donations.

  • What I hate is that some crazies think that's all planned parenthood does. Forget about giving birth control, treating stds, counseling, gynocare. I guess they only do abortions to some people.

Im glad sjk rethought their decision. They should support healthcare for women.

  • I raised all that money for the 3 day walk, and to read that very little of the donations actually go to research pretty much broke my ever-loving heart.

    :(

This is my thought. I never knew they donated to PP in the first place.

I do agree with Tiff about the fact that many people only think of PP as doing abortions and not all the other services they offer. As much as I'm against abortions I don't hate PP.

Its sad, most charities are like this. You give $50, and about $15 actually makes it to the cause. Point- I had a friend that worked for charity. His full time job was to put on 4 events a year. That's it. And he got paid over 40k to do it, and his salary is payed by donations to this charity. It's a pretty big one.

I have no shame in admitting I went to PP as a poor law student with crappy insurance.  I couldn't afford care from an OB/GYN and I received good care from PP.  And I never received abortion services.  So, I totally agree that they are an important organization that serves a great need in our community.  And a significant % more of the services are non-abortion services.

I am against abortion.  But I support PP, as it provides a lot of services to a lot of women in need.  I agree about SJK supporting healthcare for women - that should absolutely be the focus.

  • I lost a million brain cells trying to read MckMama's post on her facebook last night. Ugh.

  • As a poor college student, I too went to PP and got extremely good service.  Actually, I had first gone to the OBGYN that my parents' insurance would cover, but the BC was almost 50 dollars a month which I would have paid for!! I went to PP and it was $10 a month
  • I lost so much respect for Komen when I found out. Regardless of your stance on abortion, women (particuarly young, uneducationed, or poor) need health and education resources available.

  • Oh yeah, I'm not too proud to admit that I used PP until I was on my own insurance.

Planned Parenthood comes out regularly and works with our teens at Girls Inc.  Many of those girls come from low-income families or are in foster care.  They work with them on a lot more than just STD and pregnancy prevention.  The do stuff regarding relationships, health, dating violence, etc.  They really do a lot of good and I don't think people (general population) are aware of a large majority of what they do.

    Ick!

Anyone who thinks Planned Parenthood only provides abortions clearly has always had all the money they could want/need and has no business making any decision that pertains to Planned Parenthood. Silver spoon, anyone?

People need affordable health care and EDUCATION!!!  Why is that so controversial?

  • OK.... so I had to do a quick google.

3% of Planned Parenthood's services are abortions. THREE FHUKING PERCENT, yet that's all anyone seems to focus on.

See all the stats here. (kind of interesting)
