They "dropped your care" after you were transferred. Huh? I was just wondering b/c they had one midwife go with me to the hospital for my repair and stay the whole time until I was discharged. Just wondering what happened there?
I too was a little disappointed in how "big" MMC was getting and that was 3 1/2 years ago. From what I understand Tracey wants to keep it smaller, but doesn't want to turn anyone away either and that it's hard to find trained midwives to expand to have more centers or different centers. I think that means that there really is a demand for more free-standing birthing centers and more midwives.
Are you united with the CCOKCs?
Re: ~Casebride MMC S/O ?~
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
I was a non-emergency transfer and no one went with me. I had to ride by myself in the back seat of the car while DH drove. That was one of the worst experiences of my life because we had to go all the way to St. Joe's because of our Kaiser insurance. But, I don't believe it would have been any different if we had gone to Swedish, since at the 36-week "class" (now called a "midwife chat") they said that they would not go with you when you transferred unless it was an emergency.
After the transfer I did not hear from them again. I had a lot of issues to process (certainly did not expect a transfer for my third birth!) and *I* called *them* two weeks after the birth and had to practically beg them to get a midwife to call me back so I could talk with her and help process the birth experience. That was a huge disappointment to have no follow up.
Maybe you got one with you because it was earlier in their history, or because your baby had actually been born there before you transferred?
I totally understand that there is a huge demand for freestanding birth center care, and that it is a business so they have to run it a certain way, but as a consumer, I want more personalized care. Like I said, I still preferred it to the hospital, but I think it could be better. What I really wanted was a damn home birth, but my history made it too risky. *pouts*
