explain the making $ from the blog thing, please
people keep saying that the baby lady is making a ton of money.
i thought bloggers made money if people clicked on an ad, not if people just visited the blog.
truthfully, i rarely click ads when i'm online anyway.
but is there some other way she makes money off it?
i am technologically clueless
Re: explain the making $ from the blog thing, please
I don't remember seeing ads on her blog and I don't have the link handy (plus I don't want to give her money by clicking over) but yes, in theory she gets money just by people visiting her blog. No clicking on ads required.
I only know how it works for food blogs since that's what I have. I work with a company called FoodBuzz. There are other companies out there - BlogHer (which she might have because I don't think the blog has to be about food) and Foodie Blogroll off the top of my head. Companies place ads from these companies and you contract with the middle man company to get the ads on your blog.
Contracts vary so I can't say how much she gets but it's usually based on 1,000 hits. So, for example, if her contract was $3 for every 1,000 hits, then she'd get money based on how many people come to her blog.
Yup, just from visiting.
And yes, Amy, you should start a food blog. Of course I'd follow you! Take pics of what you make, write a little blurb, contract with an ad company for ads and rake in the dough. Ha! Seriously, it takes some time to actually make money. A friend of mine has been blogging for awhile now and doesn't get a ton of money yet. I've been blogging since 2006 but only put ads up maybe 3 years ago. I get a decent amount each month that I see as fun money, but it's nowhere near what the big bloggers bring in.
Hot damn! I need to sign up for one of those. With my current readership I could make like $3 every year or two.
Google AdSense pays when ads are clicked btw.
i cant find the blog I ran across on pinterest, but the women posts a monthly total of the profit that she brought in from maintaining her lifestyle blog from that month. She doesnt have a crazy amount of followers but she makes a few hundred a month
i didnt know about advertising until I was over 10K hits on my site. I have 1 but honestly I never did it to make money, it was a way for me to organize my recipes and for my friends and family to get the recipes I make for them without me photocopying or emailing. If you really put some effort into it, I think you could do well. The skinny taste blog must make bunch of money if you look at her site
"so lucrative" is definitely not the case, lol. for people like Pioneer Woman and others at her level, yes...but not for the ordinary blogger like moi.
I'm sure Savvy is doing well, especially from all the hype the past week or so, but she's not going out and buying a yacht or anything (although from what I gather, she'd probably love to so she could post some bikini pics while her screaming baby is looming in the background!)
"Like" me on Facebook
Thanks for clarifying, Melissa. I thought a blog had to really hit it big time (like Pioneer woman) for there to be $ involved. I will definitely fan certain blogs now knowing it will help.
