Tubes in ears and adenoid removal

Hi girls,

I was wondering if any of you had to go through both of these procedures with your children? Unfortunately, my 17 month old DD has to have both procedures done Crying  I'm so nervous about it all! I think the anesthesia is a big part of my fear and also that they would have to intubate her for the adenoid removal. I guess i'm just looking for any feedback about your experiences with both procedures or even if they just had to have one of the two. How was the surgery and also recovery for your little one?

Also, did any of you ladies use Dr. Samadi (in Hackensack) or Dr. Brody (works out of Englewood and Hackensack) for either procedure? We are debating who to go with out of the two to perform the surgery. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Re: Tubes in ears and adenoid removal

  • My son had tubes put in at 10 months....easiest surgery ever. I was a mess for it, and there was no reason to be...it was done in about 10 minutes, and he was as happy as a clam when he woke up, you'd never know anything happened.  He needs adenoids out but they wouldn't do it because they said he was too young, but now that he's had tubes, I don't see any reason for the adenoids, since the tubes did the trick.  Honestly, I know it's hard not to get worked up/emotional about your baby going under ,but it was the quickest and easiest thing ever.

  • Dr. Samadi did both procedures for my 2 year old. It took about half an hour and the anesthesia was the worst part. My daughter woke up crying and they had to give her more pain meds. Recovery that day was fine. She ended up getting a cold at the same time which made the rest of her recovery really really awful. It took her two full weeks to be back at 100%. That said,I would still have done both at the same time. She has gotten sick since (but duration and severity of sickness is much less).
  • DS had his tonsils and adenoids removed Jan. 17th.  The recovery wasn't too bad, except the pain meds. made him sick.  The Dr. said to give him 1/2 tbsp. instead of 2 tbsp. and supplement the rest with Tylenol.  It was tough waking up every 4 hours to give him the meds.  lol  He was crying when he first woke up.  The Dr. told us at the initial appointment that he would be crying.  Good luck!
