My little girl started vomiting yesterday and was not her usual self. I took her to the vet and today the bloodwork came back- labs were normal except for Spec fPL.
Vet says she has pancreatitis. I am requesting an ultrasound (vet didn't think that was a bad idea) next week just to make sure it isn't anything even worse. Right now, we are limiting food; she is on anti nausea and pain meds.
I know diet is key to managing pancreatitis. Of course I'll discuss with the vet, but does anyone have any recommendations? Price isn't as much an issue- I want the best quality for her.
Beautiful baby girl born at 34 weeks due to vasa previa. Finally home after 15 day NICU stay!
Re: Pancreatic Diet- Cats
I had a similar situation with my dog in Nov. and he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. He was on 12 hour iv's for three days. He had to be tested for diabetes. He actually had to eat Science Hill diabetic dog food while being treated. Unfortunately, the diabetes did not go away but it is under control. Do not give any treats b/c so many will irritate her. I know this sounds weird, but one week later my daughter's 3 year old dog showed similar symptoms and she rushed him to the vet and he was also diagnosed with pancreatitis. He had to go on special food (diabetic type food) for 7 to 10 days.
Both vets told us that we must be very careful with diet b/c the dogs will be more like to developed pancreatitis in the food. I was told both canines and felines have similar symptoms with pancreatitis and treatment is similar.
Good luck!!
