Update!

Hey ladies, sorry it's bean a while since the last update, things are a little crazy around here!

Berrit:
After our hospital stay she lost weight again. Prior to going in I had been on an MSIP diet for a week (eliminate all milk and soy protein), however, the dr's felt that since she was showing no GI signs of MSPI (vomiting, bloody or green poop) that it wasn't the issue. After I reintroduced dairy she lost weight and we tried her on a whey based formula. It seemed to work for a day and then she got fussy and lost weight again. After a day we switched her to a soy formula and she is doing great! She is finally up to 9 lbs (birth weight was 9 lb 3 oz) and is happy. I'm still pumping and saving milk for her to start reintroducing breastmilk and hopefully get her back to nursing in the next 2 weeks. She had GERD and lactose intollerance as the official DX as of now.

Me:
I am on my 3rd type or antibiotics for mastitis/random breast infection, they have me on 2 types right now plus an anti-fungal med for preventing another yeast infection in my boob. After 4 ultrasounds this week, and 4 appts with a breast specialist and infectious disease specialist, they still have no idea what's going on. Pretty much, I have until Tuesday's appt to get better or I'm getting a skin biposy and meeting with a surgeon. They took cultures of my breast milk yesterday to make sure there's nothing in the milk that could be causing the infection. I get to keep pumping 6+ times/day to keep my boob "empty" and keeep my supply up for B. I'm just hoping we can get some answers before S goes out of town next weekend.

Thanks for all the T&P's ladies, I'll try and update you on the boob and baby when we know more.

Hope they figure out something for you soon!

  • I'm so glad to hear the baby is doing well on soy formula.  I just have to say that I think you're a total saint for continuing to have any interest in breastfeeding with all you've been through!  I hope your mastitis/infection gets better very very soon!!!

  • Glad Miss B is feeling better and gaining back some weight. Hopefully the Dx will help keep her right on track. Sorry that you are still dealing with the infection :-( I only pump 2-3 times a day (and I'm not very fond of it) so I can't imagine having to do it 6 times, but I do understand wanting to be able to provide B with your BM when everything clears up.

  • Glad B has been figured out and taken care of.

Your situation sucks.  You have all my boob vibes.

What happens if the antibiotics don't work?
