Anyone live in Toms River?

DH and I are looking into buying a home in TR. Is TR North the better high school in that area? Anyone go to school in TR - pros/cons? TIA!

Re: Anyone live in Toms River?

  • TR is HUGE...but I'm sure you know that since you're looking :) I wouldn't say one HS is better than another...I will say that if I had to choose one, I'd choose North just for the location compared to south. I know that you can get more bang for your buck the further south you go in terms of housing.

  • I work in TR and we will hopefully be moving there during the Spring if we can figure out a solution with our townhouse.

I am a teacher at the Catholic High School, Monsignor Donovan High School.

TR North is pretty good and so is TR East -  South is getting better.

    Good luck!

  • We would like to stay on the North end because DH works in Freehold & I will be working in the north end of TR. We considered Howell, but that taxes are almost 2x as high!

  • Anything in Monmouth County is going to be crazy with taxes.  If you can afford look at Point Pleasant - smaller cute town... but there are sections of TR that are great "Silverton" for example.

The school are huge but there are other options on the area - a couple of private and Catholic school.

  • I second Silverton for a nice area!

  • There was a cancer cluster near the old Ciba Giegy plant near Route 37 (you should be able to find something on Google).  I think the Northern part is nicer anyway.  lol  I agree with pp's, Silverton is nice.

  • I am partial to North b/c i went to school there. Lol I think they've put in a lot of additions and renovated because it looks bigger everytime i drive by. We lived off of whitesville which has plenty of new developments and they are really nice. My friend said there is a lot in foreclosure right now and the prices are pretty good. Oh and its closer to rt 9 if your hisband wrks in freehold. Silverton is nice especially by the water. I would avoid anything by rt 37.
