I thought it was a rash and MIL said it looked like shingles. Went to our doc's house (family friend) and he said it was. Luckily I caught it early and started meds tonight. I'm itchy and hurt. I thought I was just sore from gym! Luckily boys been vaccinated and MH has had chicken pox so I'm not contagious to them.
I always thought old people got it...guess I was wrong!
Re: So I have shingles :(
So not book club?
I kid, I kid. I can not imagine. Feel better, relax, let everyone else take care of stuff. That's one of those things that you need to get rid of or it takes forever.
Oh no! hope you're better soon!
and no, you don't have to be old to get it!

I wasn't going anyway! Couldn't get into the book.
Thanks for well wishes! Guess there's an upside to no snow...MH can be around more during the day.

that sucks.
old people get it more often, but it can hit at any adult age. My ex bf got it when he was in law school- stress can bring it out.
hope you are better fast!
I think you are contagious to your dh. Since he had chicken pox, the varicella virus is laying dormant in his body and can erupt again as shingles (herpes zoster). I'm not sure about your kids. They have the varicella virus in them now which makes them susceptible to shingles but I'm not sure at what age it's a threat. One of the potential issues with the chicken pox vaccine is that it gives a mild form of the disease which means that kids will be at risk for a worse case of shingles later in life. The severity of shingles is usually inverse to the severity of chicken pox. If you had a mild case of chicken pox as a child, shingles will be worse and vice versa.
I'm not trying to sound scary!!! I am sorry if I am but I'd double check with your doctor about who might be able to catch this (though you are probably past the contagious point anyway (I think you are most contagious right around the time symptoms are showing up).
I asked doc yesterday and he said I'm not. I also checked online and it said same thing. For someone to get it, they have to come. In direct contact and no one is getting near the rash as its on my chest and back.
Ugh! Glad you haven't had it pregnant.
I just turned 30!
