Can any San Diego girls comment on this?
Maybe not because it's so specific, but, I was wondering during afternoon/evening rush hour around 4:30-5, where the 5 starts to get busy at Del Mar, if I get off at Via de La Valle and take 101 along the coast North, will that be moving??
Re: Can any San Diego girls comment on this?
See, but, actually, my ride is completely flowing all the way from 32nd street until I hit where the 5/805 merge at Del Mar. Only at Del Mar it gets backed up! In the morning around 7:15, I again have no problems at all. When I say flow I mean 65mph +. It's the direction I'm going... on the 805, in the AM, Northbound is a disaster but South is completely moving... opposite in PM, so it totally works for me.
So I was trying to decide if I get off at via de la valle, would the coastline ride be better.... trying to decide if I can make a 5:30 pilates class in Encinitas, or not! I glanced over during rush hour last Friday and it did appear to be moving really good... but I don't know!
I used to live there and got off the 5 at the 56 every day to go East to Rancho Bernardo. 10 lanes, 20 lanes, it didn't matter a bit how many lanes nobody was going anywhere. The few times I had to keep going past the 56 there was never any relief.
My best solution was to figure out the ebb and flow of traffic and either get on the road earlier or later. If I wasn't past the choke point by 4:30 I was dead meat. Otherwise I could wait till 5:30 or 6:00 and things lightened up. Not sure how long the traffic lasts these days if it goes till 8 like KC said you may want to see if you can start work early and leave early. Other people I knew got around it by taking the coaster train. Depending on how far you drive the coaster may not be worth it for you.
I don't remember the coast highway too well, but being two lanes and having stoplights, going through cities I'd imagine it probably isn't too much better but you could always try it *once* just to see.
It will be moving.. Sometimes I take the 101 home from Lomas Santa Fe to La Costa.. However, the way the lights are timed, it might not be any faster than the 5- but you will be MOVING! lol
