A couple friends and I had signed up for a cooking class tomorrow. There is child care provided in a room next door.
Right now there is a flu outbreak here. The other mom going has pulled out because she is worried about her son catching the flu in the day care. I am torn on completely on whether to go and just hope handwashing does the trick, or pull out.
FWIW, she did not recieve a flu shot here (not available for us in this prefecture at the right time) and the reason there is such an outbreak is that the flu hitting Japan at the moment is not one of the strains in the vaccine.
Re: s/o Paranoid or Smart?
I would probably still go and just make sure you wash her hands as soon as you leave.
Is she all better from her sickness as few weeks ago? If she is not 100% better, then that changes my answer.
I agree.
How many people are going to be in the class, and how long is it? Under 20 people {not all of whom will have kids, I'm assuming} and under 2 hours, would be totally worth the risk for me.
See, I dont' know what I'd do, but I'm more likely to pull out - esp considering her sickness a few weeks ago. But not out of paranoia, more laziness - I hate dealing with poorly babies. Between W and M it seems like we have someone sick at least half the time and I just wouldn't want to spend 2 hours of fun for poss 2 weeks of poorly baby.
That said, M and I hit playgroups 3-4 days a week, so I do go out normally. I'm not a paranoid mama keeping us in all day. And it should be said that M licks and kisses things at playgroup, which is prob one reason she's often sick. I figure it's healthy for her. But I'm skittish of day care settings for some reason...
Decision was made for me, childcare was cancelled due to the outbreak because there were two fatalities in children in neighboring prefectures. Maybe paranoia was my gut instinct this time!? Thanks for the input ladies!
