40 year old Cinderella Themed Party!?

I am helping my cousin plan her 40th birthday party which is great considering she always plans everybody elses. The problem is she wants a cinderella themed party, which could be great but all the ideas she has includes the cardboard prom-like cutouts. I think that being her age she should go for an intepretation of the theme and make it adult. Any decor ideas that don't include huge cardboard staircases?

Re: 40 year old Cinderella Themed Party!?

  • Well... good luck with this one since she "plans everybody elses birthday parties" she may be very attached to her ideas.  When people get wedded to their ideas it can be very difficult to ask them to change or modify them.

Of course I'm with you that an adult interpretation of this particular theme would be better...

I would look at Tarheels Pinterest board (she posted below - just click on her signature and look at Entertaining and Seasonal flowers etc.) and maybe show some pretty things to your cousin to help her "grow up" a little... if not there really isn't anything you can do but honor the Birthday Girls wishes.. if she wants cardboard pumpkins, mice, chariot or whatever.

  • I'd go for a lot of pale blue and silver decorations since those are "Cinderella" colors.

You could use the Blue Alize or Hypnotiq liquor to make an adult punch.

Maybe make "slipper" cookies with a cutout.

  • I swear I posted this, but I guess it got eaten.

What about a masquerade ball?  It'd take a large guest list, but it'd be fairy tale-like and an excuse for glitter, etc.

  • Maybe you can sell her on a Royal Wedding version of the Cinderella idea?  I like the blue & silver idea above too.  But Hell, if the lady wants cardboard, give her her cardboard and save yourself some time & money.
  • little mice running around?

I guess you  can stop the party at 11:59 (actually that's a good idea)

    Pumpkin something?

Some fairy dust so she can grow up!

  • Really?... Like this?... :)

  • Could you do a "princess for the day" party and send her to a spa or have everyone go get their hair and nails done? Then end with tea and cupcakes.
  • You know what, if she wants a Cinderella theme GIVE IT TO HER.  Why can't she have it?  It's sort of like saying "I know you only like chicken, but shrimp is so much nicer so that's what you are having for your birthday."  Maybe it's the one theme she always wanted as a kid and for whatever reason she never got it.

My aunt's family could never afford a real Barbie doll.  All aunt ever wanted was a real one, not the drugstore knockoff that she always had.  One year for Christmas my mom gave her that barbie doll.  It's the one gift aunt ALWAYS talks about.

For various reasons I never really had birthday parties.  I always wanted one with the plates and decorations.  Princess wouldn't be my choice, but I could totally see why she wants this.

  • And on the other hand, maybe she is a big whackadoo.  In which case all of her friends already know this so won't be surprised.
  • WOW i never thought of it like that.... makes a lot of sense... THANK YOU!!!
