My dog likes strangers more than she likes me :(

I don't know what it is, but Sadie goes crazy when strangers give her attention. I have never seen anything like it, she gets so excited. She especially loves our neighbors who have had to stop petting her because she gets too worked up. I also had to stop taking her to the dog park because she was hounding people for attention and started resource guarding strangers from their own pets Tongue Tied Me? Oh I'm just the schmuck that feeds her and takes care of her.

  • B is the same way.  We call her our little social butterfly.  We like to joke that people must think we abuse her because if she ever gets loose, she won't come to us (she thinks it is a game to run away), but she'll run right up to the first person she sees to love all over them!
  • I think Sadie wants to trade up Stick out tongue Things got much better the first time she was adopted, so why not do it again.

  • Lol, love the reasoning!
  • Yeah, Poeser is the same way, she has some besties that she is more excited to see than us and she always is super sweet and excited when strangers acknowledge her lol. Once on my birthday she was being super sweet so I told my husband that Poe got me a birthday gift because she treated me nicer than she does a stranger lol.

Poe: Here we go once again with the "I was a wild stray..." story. Blah blah blah *eye roll*

  • This sounds like G. It absolutely makes her day when a stranger tells her how pretty she is.  She is very vain.  Me?  I can sit there telling her she's gorgeous until I'm red in the face, and on some days I hardly get a nub wag for it.

My theory is that we just tell them we love them too much, so we become old news.

  • Our Maggie is exactly like that!  That's why we're hoping to get her registered as a therapy dog.  :)  It's weird -- don't know why some are like that!
