Do you use a carseat in an airplane?

The last time Abby was on a plane she was 9 months old and she was on our lap.  Do you use one??  Is it not needed?

Re: Do you use a carseat in an airplane?

  • i didn't but we also didn't need a car seat on the other end. I may have if we needed to bring one anyway. I was flying with her alone and didn't want to have to carry anything else through the airport.

  • I did and regretted every second of it lol - it allowed my son to kick the seat in front of him because of the positioning of the seat.  And there was no real way to fix it, so the next time we flew with him, no car seat and he was totally fine without it.

  • We just got back from Orlando yesterday & my son was not on a carseat.  He's 2.5.  I kept thinking if something happened he'd  be the first to fly out of his seat.
  • We never do - up until both kids were/are 2, we lap child them....Brandon right now just sits in the seat next to me...

  • We went to CA the month before W turned 2. We used the car seat on the plane cause we needed it for the rental car right away anyway PLUS he was used to it and that's a loooonnnggg plane ride.

This year, if we go out there's no way that I can expect him to stay trapped in for 6 hours. I live in fear of the entire trip.

  • We have because we needed it at the other end and I didn't want to check it because I've heard horror stories.
  • I never have. Last year we traveled on a plane (Evan was AK early 3 at the time) and I didn't use it in the plane then. He's always been on the smaller side so he was on my lap for the trip.
  • Also when we went to Disney last month he had an airplane seat but no car seat.
  • The few times I flew w kids we checked the seat. Once she sat on my lap at a yr 1/2 and at 3 got her own seat. They have so much room w o it and can use the seat to color on it or play. Seems so much easier to me
  • we have flown every year since DD was 10 months old and never once did.
  • We're flying in May - so Alexis will be just over 2.5 - I'm not bringing her carseat on the plane. I've checked it in a carseat bag several times with no problems

  • We usually fly with car seats and always fly with the infant car seat when renting a car (and when we have an infant lol) as I don't trust those craptastic rental car seats. When we went to St. Thomas we flew with both girls in the convertible seats. I think we've only flown without them once or twice.

  • nope. we gate check it if we need to travel with it (sometimes family will pick us up and have a carseat already in the car for us).

i don't think it's needed. i mean, if the plane goes down, the carseat won't make a difference. i would just hold a smaller kid if there was a lot of turbulance.
