best airline credit card out now?

We're buying four tickets to Alaska this summer.  And well, I really don't want to buy four or pay for luggage for four people.  So I'm making the hubs suck it up and open a new card.

Our cheapest ticket options are usually Continental/United but if Delta has a better card out now, I'll take that too. Who has the best deals out now?

Re: best airline credit card out now?

  • We have the Continental card and love it.  We're taking all 4 of us to Cape Cod on mileage (thank you sign up bonuses and charging everything to it) and won't pay for luggage.  It's only 1 per card holder, but DH is traveling separately and will carry on and I can fit our stuff in 1 suitcase (free) because we can do laundry during our 2 week stay.
  • DH and I just got the Chase saphirre preferred. We each got our own so we each got 50,000 bonus points with 3,000 spend in 3 months. You get 2 pts per dollar dining out and for travel, 1 pt per dollar on everything else. You get access to the ultimate rewards mall to make purchases for extra points. Points can be transferred to CO/united,southwest,hyatt,hilton (I think) & other airlines. I'm sure I'm missing other details so check out the blog thepointsguy.com where you can get more details on the chase card and lots of others. Hes a big Delta fan so you can get really good info from him. We put everything on our credit card but we dont spend that much monthly so we're focusing on just one card. This happened to be the best choice for us.

BTW, you look fabulous in your siggy pic!! I know you've been working hard and it shows :)..I'm hoping that sometime soon I can get back to running! Right now, it seems like i'll never get there :(

  • I have the Chase Continental.  It was just the basic card, but they upgraded me to a Visa Signature at no extra charge years ago. I think it either pay $45 or $65 a year (I can't remember).   We have not paid for airfares in over 5 years and go on miles.  It's only 25000 roundtrip to most cities and we just all went to San Diego in June and Orlando last month.  I checked in 3 luggages (the girls were on my reservations with their own tickets) and it was all free.  And you also get exception items that don't count towards your luggage for free.
