Sides and dessert to go with new mom meal

Hi everyone! A friend of mine just had a baby and I'm signed up to bring meals. This week I'm bringing white chili and cornbread. Any thoughts on what sides and dessert might go well with it? TIa!

Re: Sides and dessert to go with new mom meal

  • When I  make chili, I just do cornbread on the side. Maybe toss a salad (without the dressing) or bring her salad fixings? I'd love brownies for dessert...anything snacky so she can eat one handed if she has to

  • A salad (with dressing like vinaigrette on the side - and maybe some healthy add-ins like sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, etc. I know when I was nursing I craved salads with lots of good stuff in them!)

and brownies or chocolate chip cookies sound perfect for a dessert.

  • If she's nursing, you could make lactation cookies for dessert!  (or, just regular oatmeal cookies, if you think the name of the cookies will freak out her DH...  :)  )
  • Not exactly what you asked for, but since I think you meal is awesome as it.  Maybe cut of veggies and dip to go as a snack or cut up fruit and some muffins for breakfast the next day.

This would be a really sweet bonus.  I think the chili and corn bread would be fantastic by itself, but I'll say that I had a hard time getting enough healthy snack-type food at my fingertips when we brought the Munchkin home.  I think it's really sweet that you're being awesome enough to cook anything for her at all.

When it's all said and done, what matters most is your relationships with other people; without good friends and family, what's the point?
