NCR Job vent/T&P request!

I know I don't post that often, but I started a new job last week and it's really awful!  The first day the senior person who has been there for 7 years informed the staff that "the next person who makes a mistake is going to get fired!" and it went downhill from there.  Apparently I started during the busiest week of the month, but the four other paralegals were all there until 8 or 9 every night, and I was told that's pretty much normal and expected.  I was told when I accepted the position that the hours are 8:30-5:30, and no OT was mentioned.  The girl that I sit closest to is a super-negative annoying immature person with no experience in our field.  She spends all day swearing under her breath whenever anyone asks her to do anything or if she gets a phone call, etc.  In the 6 days that I've been here I've heard people get yelled at by the attorneys, by the senior paralegal and by each other.  I cried all the way home 4 of the 5 days last week.  I regret my decision completely and am looking for something else.  I've talked to an attorney at a firm that I used to work with, and they have a position that would be perfect for me, but I'm waiting to hear from the HR director.  Sorry this is so long, please keep your fingers crossed that I hear from the other firm and soon!

Re: NCR Job vent/T&P request!

  • Yikes - that sounds like a horrid atmosphere.

As a fellow paralegal - there are SO many firms that can be toxic environments.  I am sorry that you ended up being in one of them.

Hopefully your old firm's position turns out for you...you definitely need to get out of there.

    Hugs!

  • I hope you find a new job soon. That sounds just awful.  As an attorney, I think its shameful that a firm is run that way.
  • Oh no!! I paged you the other day after seeing you upset in another post. I'm so sorry and I hope something new comes along soon! Fingers crossed.
  • Thank you so much for the encouragement!  Until I hear something from my old firm (or anywhere else I'm floating my resume!) I'm trying to just keep my head down and be quiet.
  • I totally understand what you are going through. I stopped nesting for 2 years (I know. it was painful. lol) because I had the job from HELL. I was written up my first week on the job for inviting my coworkers to a pumpkin carving party. Apparently, I was fraternizing, which until then hadn't been an issue. I hated every day of that job. I really hope you find something else quickly! Sorry you have to deal with this in the meantime.

  • That sounds absolutely awful!  I hope you have luck finding a new job soon to get you out of that hellhole.

When it's all said and done, what matters most is your relationships with other people; without good friends and family, what's the point?
