Nekkid dogs becoming un-nekkid question

Ziva seems to be itchier than normal where she got shaved for her surgery. She had some red bumps on her back that seem to be gone now. Is this a reaction to no hair (she's getting more stuff on it), a reaction to the fur growing back, or is she just weird?

  • When my short haired dog was shaved for an IV for surgery she had bumps and chewed on her leg. I think the fur growing back irritated the skin.

This.  I've used some Eucerin Calming Cream on my poodle mix after he was neutered because his skin was irritated and it really seemed to help him.

ETA:  I didn't put the cream on his scar or anything, just around it where he had some bumps.

  • Ditto everyone. I think about when I finally shave my super hairy legs (Embarrassed) & how they are itchy for awhile after, I figure its the same for them too.

That being said, this didn't happen to Cooper after surgery, but he's a shorthaired dog.

    (Cooper seyz: Hi Ziva!)

I didn't think of this!! I bet she had a bit of razor burn that went away! That stuff itches like a biznatch!! And while my leg hair hasn't gotten to Ziva fur length I've definitely made some valiant attempts that end with extreme itchiness and some razor burn.

(Ziva says :HI!!! complete with tail wag and head tilt)

  • It is definitely razor burn.  Those surgeons are sticklers about a close cut.

Haha, that made me smile...& then laugh!

Love the tail wag & head tilt! Cooper didn't do that b/c 1. he just has a nub tail (:D) & 2. he's totally zonked out on the couch right now! We took a super long walk after work! Haha
