Well, its official :(

wypadek, orangeblossom....& any other pestie who know whats been going on w/Cooper lately...

Finally got ahold of the Vet today, Cooper is scheduled for surgery Monday the 13th to remove the loose crimp. I am relieved...or atleast I was. Till DH informed me that he will be leaving to go OOT for work that day & returning Thurs Sad. I work 20 minutes away & right now my schedule is 1/2 as flexible as it normally is (Im covering for someone on maternity leave)...which means, next week will be super tricky for me....pretty much, hel!....

What really irks me about this whole thing is that I started this process January 20th, immediately made an appt w/our local Vet for a 2nd opinion (http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/62533534.aspx).

After the local appt the 20th I made an appt for Jan 27th w/the operating Vet. I took the day off of work, DH took time off of work so we could drive down. We get there & after 20 minutes of waiting the receptionist informs us that they made a scheduling error & that the Vet wasn't actually in till the afternoon. I wasn't even mad about that, I know sh!t happens. It happens @ our office all the time & we always feel horrible, so I can sympathize. It wasn't a big deal anyways, b/c the Vet didn't even need to examine him. We are there atleast monthly, & we had just been there 2 weeks ago. Plus I had been mentioning this problem for over 6months, but she kept checking him & telling me he was fine. So now she just needed to look @ the xrays I took & tell me what we needed to do. The receptionist & Vet tech assured me that the Vet would look @ the xrays & call me that afternoon. Now, I wasn't really expecting a call that day, or even, the day after...but, I was expecting a call at some point....

Well, she finally called me on the 31st @ 6pm while I was @ an appt (of course) & told me she'd call me tomorrow (the 1st), but never did. I called the 2nd & she was going into surgery, but I was told she would call me....but again, never did. So, I called again today & finally got her...& she pretty much told me what I already knew.

So yeah, I was/am annoyed. Ideally I wanted to schedule the surgery for today, b/c I could have had today, & Thursday off. &, DH is also in town this week, so I would have had help....But, what can you do ::shrugs:: I will just be relieved when this is all over!

  • Ack, I'd hate to have to put him under for that but I'm glad you found it to be something like this rather than something more significant.

I've seen pins, etc come out through the skin after surgeries!

  • That's so frustrating!! I'm so sorry! But yay for Cooper hopefully getting better quickly!

Is this surgery same recovery time or less (I don't remember. I have a crap memory these days)? And since Cooper is an old pro at this by now hopefully that'll make it easier and he won't be TOO mad at you. Wink

You'll have a cute partially nekkid puppers too! Although you've done it a couple times already so the cuteness may have worn off. I'll make sure to check back often for updates (cough cough)

  • I've been reading but not posting sending good thoughts to Cooper. Hey I'm Pming you as well.
  • Thanks everyone!

Yeah, Its been a long road, he will lick the inside of his leg raw due to the irritation. Believe me, we wouldn't be doing this unless it was necessary. The crimp is digging a notch out of his tibia. If we dont take it out, we could potentially be looking @ something much much worse in the future (bone infection..etc) I'd rather bite the bullet now when its (hopefully) just a minor surgery.

    Guh.
