Is this even legal?

DH is supposed to have online access to his W2 in lieu of a paper one being mailed. It's still not available online. Does the Jan 31 deadline not apply for an electronic version? Very frustrated!

Re: Is this even legal?

  •  it should have been available by the 31st.

mine was online only too and it was posted on the 30th

  • That's a good question. I know it just has to be mailed by the 31st, which means some people won't get them until maybe this week. But online, I'd think it should be easier to put them up.

    I'm sorry!

  • I know MH mentioned that, in some cases, there has been a new date of February 15th put into effect. Not sure if this falls into that category or not. I can ask him when he comes home if no one else has any information.

  • its not that its illegal, but it could open the employer up to fines...that said, if i am not mistaken, your husband works for a rather large non-profit, and i don't know if special rules apply...

the february 15th date is for 1099's...

  • Thanks ladies! After all that frustration last night it finally went up this morning, so taxes are now done! And hookers, yes, he's at a large, private University so different rules may apply. In the past it was never so late, but this is the first year they're offering it electronically, so maybe there are different regulations.

I just wanted to get it done because with me ending a job, starting a job and leaving it and him adding significant tutoring and freelance work I was worried about where we'd stand and needed to start  saving now if we owed. Turns out we're getting a nice refund instead because all employers overwithheld (which is fine with me.... I'd rather give the government a tax free loan than come up short!), so I'm a much happier person today lol!
