Whats your favorite dinner to serve company?

We are having friends over on Friday and I am not feeling anything.  Not sure why.  I love to cook!  No fish though.

Re: Whats your favorite dinner to serve company?

  • for me its tough because i hate cooking multiple meals because ken's a vegetarian.

sunday we are having friends over and im either doing lasagna or ziti with chicken parm. i like the opportunity to make meat for people when its more than belle and i eating it.

for easter i've decided im roasting a chicken (thats easy and yummy) and you can make fancier sides

you should make pepper steak im DYING for pepper steak. but my daughter HATES peppers so i'd make this whole thing for myself and be forced to eat it all

    swedish meatballs over egg noodles

    pot roast

    beef straganoff

  • Anything that doesn't require me spending lots of time finishing the cooking while my company is here - things that are braised, stewed, roasted are easier........I don't have a "favorite" dinner. All depends on how many people, what time of year it is, etc.

  • Depends on the company. Lately I've been doing Italian - meatballs and sauce with homemade Caesar salad dressing because our friends love this and it's easy, plus the kids will eat it.

Before kids I always tried to do something new, but that would let me hang out with them instead of being in the kitchen the whole time. My favorite was Tyler Florence's Dad's meatloaf with potato gratin.

  • Penne vodka w/ balsamic chicken, a salad & bread. Stew or pot roast in the crockpot.

  • Grilled chicken or chicken cutlets (depends on my mood) with roasted peppers, sauteed spinach and fresh mozz on top. They're easy because you can cook the chicken and spinach the day before, then just assemble and pop in the oven.

We've also done tacos which is easy - again, prep work done night before, minimal stuff needs to be done day of.

Anything in the crock pot always works - I love doing ropa vieja (pulled pork gets to be lame after a while, especially following football season, IMO).

  • My go to's are lasagna or baked ziti, salad and garlic bread or chicken cutlets. Sometimes if it's close family I will do a meatloaf.
**the new version of the nest ate my pictures and I can't get them back again***
  • It totally depends on the time of year/occasion/company but I love making individual cornish hens-- usually serve w/phyllo wrapped asparagus (impressive & always a hit), garlic mashed potatoes & gravy, carrots, and biscuits-- everyone loves comfort food!

  • The Chicken Rollitini on the Skinny Taste website would be easy and good to make for a crowd.. with a big salad and garlic bread or something?
  • Pizza!!! Ed usually preps the dough ahead of time and then just rolls it out, tosses on the sauce cheese and toppings. In the oven for 15 minutes and it's done!!!!

  • A meat ziti/lasagna with salad and bread.  Easy because you can prepare in advance, and most people love it.  Add wine and you're set.
  • You could also go casual--it's fri night, after all.  If you have a crockpot or will be home all day you could do a pulled pork with rolls and coleslaw, etc. and a homemade mac and cheese.

  • I make this chicken dish that is sort of easy. Its' really thin chicken breasts stuffed with mozzarella, rolled up and then baked for 35 minutes. Pound the breasts until they are pretty thin, S&P them, lay a thin layer of mozz. cheese, roll it up, bread them in flour, egg and Italian breadcrumbs. Put in a pyrex. drizzle with 1/2 cup of melted margaine with 1tsp of dried thyme and majoram mixed in ( or whatever you have that goes good together on chicken) and bake for 20 minutes. Then pour 1/2 cup (I think) of white wineover it and bake 15 more minutes. All uncovered. Its always a hit and appeals to most! I serve with rice pilaf and string beans or asparagus.

  • A small ham?  It's so easy to just put in a roasting pan & cook.

One of my favorites is Pioneer Woman's Stuffed Shells.  They make so much too, so it's always a go-to if I want leftovers.

Tacos?  I put chicken breasts, salsa, taco seasoning & a little bit of water in the crockpot, cook on low for 6-8 hours and then shred up.  Everyone can make their own.

  • Chicken Francaise, Risotto, Salad and a Veggie - usually broccoli.
  • I pick up different frozen raviolis (butternut squash & wild mushroom, pumpkin, cheese, etc) and different sauces from Vitamia in Lodi and sort of have a pasta bar. I make frozen garlic bread and a big salad to go with it.
