eating/fitness check-in....holy wakeup call batman!

so i logged back into my WW account with the goal of tracking again, like i used to. i would track off and on but not as consistently.

i started on thursday. i am at -25 points. between beers, wings and other high point items that i totally thought "oh this can't be that bad" while eating totally added up.

what i find funny is that i will kick myself in the morning for grabbing the 2% milk or the half and half from office fridge instead of the skim milk. b/c yeah, that smidge of milk in my coffee is what makes me gain weight, not the plate of wings and potato skins i ate on sunday night! lol.

oh sigh.

we are heading to chicago....the land of pizza for some family parties this weekend....it is not going to be pretty.

Re: eating/fitness check-in....holy wakeup call batman!

  • As some know, I just joined WW last week. I am just now getting over the bitterness, resentment and embarrassment of having to do it. And let's not talk about how I teared up when I saw the "ideal" weight. BUT, I'm getting in to the swing of things, slowly (I'm not happy about it, but I'm accepting it). Points are actually a lot easier to count than calories and having so many "free" fruits and vegetables is pretty great.

It did majorly suck to have to count points while we had company for the Super Bowl. Beer and pizza and wings and red velvet cake and in laws are a bad combo. Eventually, I lost track.

I've had a really hard time fitting in work outs lately. All of the conveniently scheduled yoga classes I used to take have been rescheduled, which is annoying and a road block.

this is why i really love ww.

i'm doing pretty good so far, but mostly because we didn't do anything for super bowl. ;)  I have found, though, that marinating skewers of chicken breast in spices & then tossed with franks red hot does help simulate the hot wing experience for me.

I've lost a little over 5lbs in 3 weeks.  I've got another 25 to go before my goal (which is still above my ideal weight...this is more of a "weight I need to lose before I try to get pregnant again" goal)

  • Dude, you should NOT start WW on super bowl weekend. Some days get a pass. Pretend like you started on Monday. :)

i hear you but seriously every weekend i could make that excuse. like we are going out to dinner, or it is XYZ's birthday, or we have a party or we have this event. never a dull moment!

and i could have made better choices.

  • I am right up there with you, the last three nights I have had seven layer bean dip for dinner.....tonight there wasn't enough so I added a margarita and sub from the Italian Store.  I am weighing in tomorrow and I think I might weigh the most I ever have tomorrow.  Not good!

  • Don't kick yourself too hard. I was drinking nothing but skim milk, but I find that 2% will keep me full. Sometimes you have to balance low fat with overall health and well being. I use such a small amount for my morning cappuccino that I doubt it matters that much.

I lost almost 30 lbs last year on WW. I'm having some issues recently, but it is mostly stomach related. I hope to drop another 20.

When you fall off the horse, remind yourself that tomorrow is another day and do better tomorrow.

    Good luck!

  • I am doing pretty well. My dad and his girlfriend just came for a 2 week visit from Korea. Since it's their "vacation" and since my dad doesn't get a lot of American foods he likes in Korea, the past two weeks have been filled with lots of food, fried okra and tons of desserts. However, I did pretty well in that I only gained 1 lb during that time and this week I'm ready getting back on track. I worked out on Monday and this morning so I'm happy about that.

For the newbies to WW, I just wanted to say stay with it and you can do it. The first 3-4 weeks were the hardest for me because all of the changes felt so tough but now that I've been on it for 4 months, it's become second nature. What helped me the most was that I promised myself that I would (1) attend the meeting and weigh in each week no matter what and (2) that I would track my points. There were some weeks where I was over my target by 50+ points but I just told myself to keep tracking. There were weeks where I gained but I told myself to keep weighing in. I found that the meetings helped give me good ideas and stay motivated and that the weigh-ins kept me honest and helped with my accountability. Super Bowl Sunday is HARD so don't let it throw you off.

Also, does everyone know about the new food scanner app? They just came out with it a few weeks ago but it's great for when you are in the grocery store or when you have food at home that has a bar code. I've been using it a lot lately.

Get out! I was just thinking how handy something like that would be! Is it part of the regular app or separate?

ETA: Nevermind! Found it in the app store. It's called Weight Watchers Barcode Scanner. Now, if only they had some kind of amazing camera app where I could take a photo of a homecooked meal and have it estimate the points. To dream . . .

  • I like the new scanner, but it doesn't work for everything. I find it only works on normal products at Safeway and stuff. I still have to input if I go to a specialty store like TJs.

I agree. It hasn't worked on most of the stuff from TJs and specialty stores.

I know! Wouldn't that be nice. I am looking forward to seeing what WW friendly recipes you come up with on your blog so I can get some more ideas :-)
