OMG, is anyone else finding it impossible to find a job??

After my break up six months ago I moved to another city an hour away.  Since then I have applied to countless jobs and had many interviews and still no job.  I am commuting back and forth an hour each way which is extremely rough with a toddler.  I have never in all my working years experienced this.  Last time I looked for a job in 2008 I found one immediately.  It was the first job I interviewed for.  I just can't believe this.  I have a bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in my field.

  • Welcome to the 2012 economy!  It has been like this for a few years.
  • I have friends with their BA or MA and could not find a job for a couple of years.  One was a Graphic Designer for Lockeed Martin and the other one was an engineer for a big company(forgot what type).

Well the Graphic desinger now works for Safeway for grocery delivery vans and the other one still have not found a job.

The economy is why I am still working at a job that is brutal.

    Yah...this.

    I'm thankful I HAVE a job!

  • I lost my job in mid March 2011, been on unemployment and applying to a minimum of 2 jobs a week since and I've heard absolutely nothing serious. Gotten 2 letters saying I was qualified but never heard anything else. It's really frustrating so I'm now back in school (and still applying to 2 jobs a week...)

  • Finished my MS in June 2010, was unemployed June-Oct. 2010, worked for barely more than minimum wage as a baker from Oct. 2010-June 2011, was unemployed from June 2011-Oct. 2011.  Was hired in a great job in my field in Oct. 2011.  Be patient, keep applying and tweaking things on your resume until something sticks.  It takes time, but it'll happen.
  • I graduated with a BS in 08 and then everything crashed. I've never been able to find a permanent "real" job--only internship after internship and a seasonal position. Thank goodness DH is older than me and already landed a permanent job or else I'd be living in a cardboard box right now.

  • I just wonder who in the heck is actually getting hired.  Not to toot my own horn but I think my resume is pretty good.  I live in the southwest so I can't imagine there's many ivy leauge graduates or anything like that around here.  I guess in this economy if you don't know someone you aren't gettin in.

  • Ditto PP,

I work for the federal gov't and I have been trying to move around within the agency and to no avail.  I have also been trying to get a part time job to do something with my spare time and can't even find anything.
