California had a fantastic overturn yesterday when its highest court deemed it unconstitutional to ban gay marriage at the state level. Rumor has it it's bound for the US Surpeme Court within the next year, though the exact path it will take is unclear. And that, as we know, is serious business, especailly when the justices currently stand 3 for, 3 against, and one undecided. What are you feelings on all this?

I am all for gay marriage/civil union/whatever you want to call it. Why shouldn't two people of the same sex who have been monogamous and faithful to each other for 25 years have the same rights as a man and woman who drunkenly married each other in Vegas after being acquainted for 15 minutes? I have issues with the people who talk about the "sanctity of marriage" as their reason for opposing gay unions. If you really wanted to protect marriage, divorce would be illegal and adultery is a felony offense.

I cannot believe people still exist that are against gay marriage. And even if they personally are, I can't see how people thing it should be LEGALLY banned.

I'm really super duper excited about this.
The Supreme Court takes new cases twice a year. It'll take the parties a couple of weeks to get their briefs filed, but the soonest we'd see a SC ruling would be late fall if it is heard in their summer session (and that is only if it vets through the process and the appeal brief of the Circuit court's decision has the right kind of claim to be reviewed).
I don't know that the Supreme Court will take the case- I think that it is not a wide enough scope that it would have national effect. The LA Times seems to agree:

I think we're talking several to many years in the future before we have a national referendum/ SC opinion. I think it'll probably happen in our lifetime, but not until people who are 18-35 now are in the 55+ key voter target range.

Santorum scares the bejeezus out of me. I'm not a fan of Romney either because he just seems really fake, but seriously. Santorum scares me, and the fact that he gets votes scares me even more.
I think gay marriage should totally be legal. And I think the pic Nooner posted is about the best thing I've ever seen, ever.

As someone who has a gay family members (Dad & Uncle), I grew up around a lot of gay people and it makes me sad that some of them have been in relationships longer than I've been alive but yet they can't get married.
I may be the only person on here with this view, and don't really feel like arguing about it (the morning sickness/puking/nausea has hit me full force this week) but I just have to add my two cents. And I may get flamed for this, but that's ok. Don't take it personally if I don't respond. I'm probably hanging over the toilet or something.
I am totally against this for moral reasons. So I can never support this. However, I think our constitution has too many loop holes, and our country has gone down hill enough-and will continue doing so-that it will eventually be legal in most everywhere.I also don't know enough about the law and constitution to argue about it.
My faith is #1 in my life, and it has shaped all or most of my views. So all my arguments are from the Bible, which most people have a problem with. It's not enough to go on or something. But here's some reasons why I don't believe in it.
1. God created them male and female and put them together (Adam and Eve) to multiply and be fruitful. God also made Eve as Adam's help meet. If God had intended us to have marriage with male/female, male/male, female/female, then I think he wouldn't have just started with male/female and stopped there. Also, look at the body parts...God made male/female to "fit" together perfectly. This was His plan.
2. Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 was burned up because of the great wickedness of the city. What was going on there? Homosexuality was one of the main things. It is mentioned in this chapter. God wouldn't have burned it up if he was ok with this. And since God's not ok with this, I'm not ok with it.

4. I Corinthians 6:9-10 KJV "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor EFFEMINATE, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." This is pretty plain to me.
From my POV, the Bible is very clear about God's take on homosexuality. It's an abomination to Him, and if it's an abomination to Him, it should be to his followers as well. Therefore, I will never, ever be able to support this with a clear conscience and can only hope that it does not pass any further. I love the sinner, but hate the sin.

You don't believe in it? fine. Don't marry a woman. But none of your arguements say why it shouldn't be LEGAL.

oh, and you can't say that anyone who believes in God should agree with this. We all have different BELIEFS (not absolute facts) about God. The God I believe in would never agree with this. MY God says that you should love others as I love you. Which doesn't include discrimination. Of any kind.

As I said before, I think that there is nothing clear in the constitution about it, and many people will find loop holes to get what they want. I don't know enough about it to argue against it becoming legal, I just said I'm against it and why I'm against it. I think someday it may become legal, but I pray that it doesn't.

Whether or not you believe in it doesn't give you the right to project that on to other people and tell them what they can and can't do.
but there is something clear in the constitution - it says a separation of church and state. One of the fundamentals this country was founded on.
You can pray it doesn't become legal all you want. The rest of us will be voting for it to pass.
Agreed - there is a separation of Church and State that so many want to blur. If YOU don't believe in it, good. Don't believe in it. But your beliefs are NOT my beliefs, therefore I shouldn't have to live my life by your belief system. Correct?

I believe in the God of the Bible and I also know that he taught us to love one another. I love the sinner, but hate the sin. I can love the individual, just hate what they are doing. God loves every one of us, but if we have done something against Him, while He still loves us, he hates what we have done. We are to be like Him. I have Lesbian neighbors and went to school with several homosexuals. I don't hate any of them. My heart goes out to them because I believe what they are doing is wrong.

You say THE Bible like there's only one. Shoot, there's like 3 different versions sitting on my bookcase right now. And there's even more ways to INTERPRET the Bible. I clearly interpret it differently than you. And we have every right to interpret it differently. Your beliefs are your prerogative. And it's my prerogative to judge you.
But that doesn't make any sense. You should be able to separate your opinions/beliefs from this.
Example: I don't smoke weed. I don't think people should smoke weed. However, if the issue of legalization ever comes up, I will vote yes, because I don't think it's my right to tell other people how to live their lives. I'm not quite that obsessed with myself.
I realize that there are no religious beliefs involved in this example, but it's the same idea.
I will counter this with another example: I am personally Pro-Life but I do believe in a woman's right to choose what she does with her body. Do I agree with the people who use abortion as a form of birth control? No. And I myself could never do it unless the circumstances are dire. But regardless of how I feel, I would NEVER vote on any legislation denying a woman her right to choose.
