Since lots of you gals are handy with the crockpot I was wondering something. How do you convert a regular oven or stovetop recipe to the crock pot? I would use my crock pot SO much more if I knew how to do this. I have no idea what to do and am so fearful of my meal coming out terribly and food going to waste that I never try on my own.
Re: crock pot question
Usually I test them out on the weekend when I'm home all day and can monitor the time. I've learned to do sausage, peppers and onions in the CP for several hours if I add some chicken broth or tomato sauce and make it similar to a scallopini.
But in reality, there are very few things that I make in the crockpot - chili, salsa chicken, swedish meatballs, your mac/cheese recipe, meatballs, some soups, and pulled pork. We aren't a roast beef family so I've never done anything like that.
If I wanted to try something in the crockpot and I wasn't sure about timing, I'd probably see if I could find a similar crockpot recipe online.
honestly, i don't.
Here's how my brain works:
Brain: "oh, i think i'd like to try xyz flavors on chicken in the crockpot. i wonder how that would work"
Fingers: "i shall google what you just thought and see if a recipe already exists"
almost always, I end up at the 365 crockpot lady's website.
