A few months ago I posted asking for contractor recommendtaions, but didn't get much response. That may be partially because the board is so slow, but also because (as we found out) a good contractor is ridiculously hard to find. But thankfully CharlotteL ended up referring a college friend of hers & we adored working with him.
Matt Sneller with Sneller Custom Homes. He did some work for us both inside & outside of the home. He was incredibly organized. Most contractors we talked to would only give us a ball-park figure for our kitchen & bathroom remodels. Matt gave us a line-by-line spreadsheet showing how much each element cost. We were able to save quite a bit of money that way by doing some of it ourselves.
Cannot recommend him highly enough if anyone ever needs a contractor. We're going to be doing a lot more work with him once we come back from overseas & have more money to spend on our house.
Re: Contractor RAVE - Matt Sneller
I was hoping you would see this. I know you don't want to use your former contractor ever again.
And I'm glad to hear you only got 1 quote back out of 6. I was starting to take it personally that contractors wouldn't call us back. I fail to understand why these people don't want to take the money I'm trying to give them.
I don't understand why they wasted their time to come to my house in the first place... The 1 quote I did get was INSANE. He verbally gave me a price and then the written estimate was more than double what he said.
As the wife of a custom builder... THIS is the sign of someone you want to work with.
This is something my DH/FIL pride themselves on... they do everything they can up front to prepare an accurate estimate for the work, even if it means they appear to be higher priced. Any of you ladies doing remodels or building new homes, its always something to pay attention to... how much work has gone into the estimate price.
