First pair of shoes for your LO

When did you buy your LO a pair of shoes. My LO will turn 10 months next week and he only wears socks. He doesn't walk yet, should I get him shoes now or wait until he is walking? TIA

Re: First pair of shoes for your LO

  • DD didnt wear shoes until she was walking, and even then it was just the soft-soled shoes (like robeez).  we didnt buy her her first pair of actual sneakers with rubber soles until she was really moving and needed the traction!

  • I put Robeez on DD #2 as an extra layer on her feet and to help keep her socks on since we have cold winters here. With DD #1, we were living in Houston and I didn't start putting shoes on her until she started cruising (and wanted to do it outside, etc). She wore Robeez and Pedipeds. I like the look of Pedipeds better but both are great shoes.

  • Neither of my kids wore shoes until they were walking/cruising.

The only exception, I think was Easter or Christmas. I wanted their outfits to be "complete" so I bought cheapie shoes they could wear for pictures.

I always wanted to keep unneccessary expenses down so that I had a bigger budget for diapers/wipes/formula/new clothes.

  • Maddie is just now taking her first steps so we got her fitted for shoes over the weekend.  She is 14 months.  I didn't see the point in shoes until she was on the ground more.

I'm with you.  I have foot issues and am creeped out by bare feet even on kiddos.  C had shoes from day 1.

Maybe because I keep hearing my mother in my head yelling at us for even thinking about walking out the door without shoes on our feet.

  • Viv never wore shoes until she was actually taking some steps.

I bought her pedipeds and See Kai Run soft soled shoes. She has wide feet and Robeez just didn't fit!

  • I had both girls either wear socks or robeez when they were non walkers.  And then when they started someone standing/pre-walking (around 11 months), I started buying pedipeds for them.

  • She's been wearing shoes since she was born, they are all from Janie & Jack so far.  She also has a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor's but they don't fit her yet.
  • I bought him Robeez until he actually started walking, then his first "real" shoes were Chucks.
