M's torticollis progress

Thought some of you might be interested in this as I think I've seen a few other tort babies here?

We went to the orthopedist to get Xrays and an exam today.  He has this small tilt remaining from his torticollis, and his progress has plateaued with the PT, so they wanted us to get it checked out.  My Dad also was born with a fused vertebrae, and I guess that can be genetic.  Anyway, all looks great, and they said to just continue the PT until he's walking really well.  He just needs to continue to strengthen the stretched out side.

Here are some pics of his progress

The day he was born:

About a month old in his swing (this exacerbated it and just looked terrible)

Now (I see just a tiny tilt here, and one shoulder just a smidge higher than the other):

Looking at those NB pics makes me  twitchy.

I can't believe we didn't see it for a couple of weeks. It looks to obvious to me the day he was born in the pictures.

Re: M's torticollis progress

  • Awesome!  So glad he's doing well.
  • What amazing progress he's made!  I really had to look at the last picture of him to even see anything and looking at the picture, i could attribute it to camera angle.  That first month photo just looks painful...was it something that hurt?  Was it painful for him to do the PT?  Just curious more than anything!

DS has a shunt for hydrocephalus and I have a really hard time looking at his newborn photos and up until a few days prior to when he was shunted because now...I can see that there were signs, but didn't know otherwise then.  Hindsight is always 20/20.

Way to go in working with him and getting him to where he's at now...he really looks great...and quite cute too :)

  • So glad he's doing well!  I think I wouldn't have seen it in the newborn pictures b/c wouldn't you be a little sideways if you had to share a tiny womb with your brother for so long?  Maybe he'll be a lifelong yogi from this experience.

The tilt didn't hurt him.  He does NOT like the PT. It's definitely uncomfortable, but not painful (lots of stretching.)  It has given him a little stranger danger too. This lady's always coming over and messing with him, lol.

  • If you hadn't said he still has a little tilt and I wasn't looking for it (and I had to REALLY look), I would never notice it at all.  He is doing great!
