So apparently the student to teacher ratio in Douglas County is now going to be 32:1 in kindergarten through 2nd grade and 35:1 in 3rd through 6th grade.
Does anyone else think this is INSANE???? 32 kindergarteners in a classroom???
Re: DC Class Sizes
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
Yeah, it is completely out of hand. People have no idea how much of a difference even just 2-4 extra kids makes. That is so much extra grading, 4 more parents to communicate with, and spreads you so thin you just can't get to know all your kids and help them the way you want to. I have 31 in my reading class and it is insane.
If our country doesn't figure their sh!t out soon about education our society is going to seriously suffer. It is so frustrating and disheartening.
But hey, schools don't need money! There's no need to pass a mill levy at ALL.
Big classes are not very effective classes. The end.

Katie Talks About...
I told DH about it and he said if this still happens when dD enters school, we will send her to private school.
All I can say is that fortunately this is not typically the case now. I think the biggest class in my school has about 32, and kindy is much smaller. The morning kindy class (my buddy class) probably has 18 kids. But these are the official numbers given to us for next year. I am sure principals will try to avoid classes this big as much as possible, but I don't know how much they'll be able to do. My program typically has lower class sizes because it depends on who gets in to the program, but we're also looking at having bigger combo classes (like a combination 4th/5th grade and a combination 5th/6th grade) and losing a teacher.
Parents tell me that the middle schools and high schools are worse, though I guess officially their ratios are lower which is weird. Many middle school classes have 45 kids in a class. Crazy crazy crazy!
Word.
