Cat sick or just reacting to new baby?
Since about a day or two after we brought our newborn home last Wednesday, our cat has been throwing up his food a couple times a day. DH thinks it's due to the stress of the new baby, but I'm not so sure. I'm getting worried about him. If I wasn't taking care of a newborn, I'd take him to the vet myself today. He otherwise seems to be acting fine.
What do you ladies think? Has anyone else's fur babies reacted this way to a new baby? Should I insist DH take him to the vet to get checked out?
Re: Cat sick or just reacting to new baby?
A couple times a day is worrying to me, he could get dehydrated so I would get him to the vet. He may just be stressed but it could be something else. Has he been using his litterbox normally?
You can try Feliway diffusers or spray to help him feel more comfortable.
So he's been throwing up a couple of times per day for the last week?
It's never a bad idea to rule out a medical issue, so if it gives you peace of mind, have the vet check him out.
One of our cats used to throw up very often (at least once a week). Switching her food to a higher quality helped immensely and the vomiting was virtually eliminated. She did throw up a couple of times shortly after we brought a puppy home last summer. So it might have been that she was stressed and it upset her stomach (it certainly happens to people, so it's not impossible that a cat could experience it, too).
If the vet rules out a medical problem, try adding Rescue Remedy to his water and/or plugging in a couple of Feliway Diffusers, especially in the areas he spends most of his time.
