Toddler spitting

My daughter's new thing is to sip her water or milk and spit it out. She gets it all over her clothes and the floor. Our biggest mistake was the first time we saw her do this we laughed hysterically when she did it. Since then we take her cup away and tell her no spitting. She whines that her clothes are all wet and I tell her that she's wet because she spit. Besides that, she doesn't care and thinks it's funny (and it is......it takes every ounce of being not to laugh). So...other than taking her cups away what do I do? We tried other sippies, thinking it was just the straw and she still holds it in her mouth and spits.

Re: Toddler spitting

  • Try to be as neutral as possible.  Take it away w/out saying a word, and then WALK AWAY.  Don't say ANYTHING or have any kind of facial reaction.  After a minute or two, come back and say, "Are you ready to drink like a big girl?"  And if she does it again, meal/drink/whatever time is over.

It's hard to discipline them when they are wrong but funny, lol.
