Am I just old?

We have a 40th birthday party tomorrow night, a Friday night, that starts at 8:30 p.m.

To me, that's a really late start on a Friday night.

Does anyone agree or am I just old?

P.S. Another girl who is going said the same thing as me, so I know I'm not totally alone! :)

Re: Am I just old?

  • I'm with you. I'm 9 years younger (then the guest of honor) if that makes you feel "less old". Or maybe it makes me feel more old? Or maybe its not age, but having two kids?
  • It seems a little late, but when we do Moms Night Out or Moms Night In, we usually don't start until 8:00/8:30...it gives us a chance to get the kids in bed and then go out and enjoy ourselves. However, that being said, I find myself completely exhausted by 10:00 these days, so I may just be getting old too:)

  • then i am old too...anything on a friday night is really rough for me...after a full week of work, i just want to cuddle on my couch and chill...i am usually asleep by 9/9:30...
  • i guess they are thinking that for a friday night  there needs to be some time for those that work to get home, get dressed, and travel tot he party.

i have also been to a few parties that start at that time.  i go to bed early the day before and day after and take it easy on party day.

have fun , and enjoy the party.

  • I don't like to do anything on Friday night but sit ont eh couch, but I don't get home until 7:00, so 8:00/8:30 would give me time to go home, change, and go.
  • You're not old, it's just that after having a full day, waiting around until 8 to leave is tiring. I do prefer that time though because it let's me feed and get my kid to bed without issue. It's a worse feeling when you're 28 and friends want to go out at 10!

  • I completely agree.  To me anything that starts after 7 is late, lol.  I remember the days where I didn't go out until midnight, but now, by 8pm I would like to be home and in my pjs
  • I was also thinking this:

And yes, you are old, my love.

  • If it's an adults only party, then yes, you're old lol.  But if the kids are going then def too late!

  •  fridays are tough for me BUT. it would give me time to get home and get the kids settled and time for me to get ready and in my case probally get downtown (which can take us up to 40 mins)  is it a bit late for my liking sure...but logistically it would be perfect for me

  • I agree. I am 41 and usually in bed by 9:30pm. It's partly due to working full time with 2 toddlers exhausting me. So I would be falling asleep shortly after the party started.

I remember in college we didn't first go out until 10pm!

  • I am old but I'm totally okay with that.
  • i don't think it's late for a friday night, i think it likely includes a lot of people with kids and at this hour you can get home from work, give the kids dinner, and maybe even put them to bed before having a sitter come. sounds totally ideal to me actually.

if it started that late on a saturday, i'd say it's late considering it'd be just as easy to get there earlier.
