Brunch Idea - WDWCT?

I am hosting a bridesmaid brainstorm session this Sunday at my place, and I am making brunch.  I don't know these girls very well at all (other than the bride, obviously!), so I am trying to please as many as possible.  There will be 6 of us in total.

I am going to do the following, What Does What's Cooking Think?

Bridesmaid Brunch

Drinks:

  • Coffee/Tea
  • Mimosa Bar (champagne and then assorted juices - OJ, Cranberry, Grapefruit with fresh fruit as garnish).

Main:

Eggs Benedict Bar

  • Toasted English Muffins (will have them ready to toast on cookie sheets under the broiler)
  • Will bake the eggs, poached style, in a muffin tin so I can have 12 eggs ready at once
  • Toppings Bar
    - Cheese (goat, cheddar, cream cheese, brie)
    - Vegetables (spinach, arugula, tomato, avocado, green onions, sauteed peppers, caramelized onions)
    - Meat/Protein (smoked salmon, cooked shrimp, ham, bacon)
    - Misc. (hollandaise sauce, roasted garlic mayo, chipolte mayo, fried capers)
  • SIDE DISHES
    - roasted potatoes
    - green salad

Dessert:

  • Fruit Pizza (basically a brownie crust, with whipped cream and fresh fruit on-top)
  • Fresh fruit skewers, with whipped cream

So, obviously it's a lot of food, but I can prep almost all of it the night before, and I don't have to worry so much about last-minute cooking, other than toasting the english muffins and baking the eggs.

I am definitely aiming to impress here :)

Re: Brunch Idea - WDWCT?

  • I would be impressed.
  • PLEASE invite me over. I promise I'll only eat and stay out of the conversation. :)

That sounds like an incredible brunch and I'm insanely jealous that I'm not invited.

PS. We might be in Toronto over the summer. Eeek!

  • I would love to go to that brunch.  Really sounds like anyone could be happy, even the pickiest of eaters.
    No Siggy

  • All of that sounds delicious.  I would be very impressed as well as appreciative of the thought and work put into the brunch.
  • As the pickiest eater I know, I would definitely approve.
  • Yum!  Let me know when I should be there!
  • personally I hate eggs benedict (and eggs with anything but super well cooked yolks) so i would also encourage you to ask the girls how they want their eggs cooked. believe me when i tell you a runny yolk literally turns my stomach.  i would also add sausage to the meat section and pull the smoked salmon (unless you plan on serving bagels-which would be an awesome idea). I also question the shrimp. i'd add some croissants or muffins.

brunch is breakfast AND lunch so perhaps a sandwich or soup also. the items you have listed are only breakfast. since you also dont know them you need variety. not trying to be a downer but i'd basically eat only an english muffin and potatoes and a green salad if I were there.

for the dessert-you have 2 things that are basically the same-only one has a brownie crust and one doesn't. both are whipped cream and fresh fruit. consider some pastries.

    good luck-it's a great start!

You definitely have some valid points.  I will definitely be asking re: eggs, I just didn't state that - but good point!

Also, if anyone really doesn't like eggs or eggs bennedict, then don't have to have the eggs, right?  I think with all the choices, they can make a sandwich with all the toppings (english muffin, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato), or they can have a english muffin topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon.

I feel like it's got enough flexibility that everyone would be happy.

Re: dessert. I was contemplating making something else - but figured I'd keep it kinda light/simple...but maybe I'll make something with puff pastry (apple turnovers).

  • A chef I worked with made a "Philly Muffin" for our brunches.

Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon.

I still crave it. Don't delete the salmon!Stick out tongue
