Is this a new trend? re: wedding invitations

I got an invitation this week to a wedding next month.  It has a little poem-like thing on it, the wedding date, then says to go to the couple's website for details and to rsvp.  So you have to go to their site to even see where the wedding is (OOT for me) and what time it is.  Then there is a link on the website next to the one for the details of the wedding to their registries.  Is this a new trend?

  • Good.  I was a little surprised based on the "social status" shall we say of the bride's FMIL to see something so non-traditional.

  • I don't think so. We did have the web address for our wedding (2009) website printed at the bottom of our invitations - it was OOT for pretty much everyone and we had all of the hotel info, wedding itinerary, stuff to do in town on the website instead of doing a printed insert in the invitations - and we did have our registry info on the website. But the location, date, time were most definitely on the paper invitation itself. I haven't encountered an invitation where guests *HAD* to visit the website in order to even know how to attend the wedding!

I have no problem with the website being on there for the "insert" type info.  But I honestly didn't even know it was an invitation when I got it.  I thought it was a STD since there was no info on it.

May as well have just sent out e-vites if there's absolutely no use for the paper "invitation"!

I did something similar with an OOT wedding. Details on hotel, maps, etc was on the website but there was a formal invitation with the date, time, etc. The RSVP was by website, email or phone call (for those thecnically challenged). I did not want to mess with RSVP cards due to cost and risk of getting lost in email or at home. We did not have a registry but put on our site we considered traveling to our wedding enough of a gift and a couple of suggestions of things for entertaining if someone really wanted to buy us something.
