Moms of toddlers who have had an EEG...Questions

So Juliet had some sort of seizure yesterday and we are scheduled for an EEG on Monday.  She had an EEG when she was 2 months old when we thought she had a seizure, but hasn't had any kind of event since.  So I know what to expect when an infant has an EEG done, but not a toddler.

The EEG on Monday is in the office and needed to have the insurance company authorize a video EEG (which her neuro wants to have done and is scheduled for the 20th).  If any one has any experience with either, please share.  I want to hear the good, bad and ugly.  I want to know what to expect.  Thanks!

  • are they going to sedate her? Kieran had a sedated EEG when he was 18 months old- it was fine cause he was sedated. He never had a video one- basically they gave him a sedative, nothing too serious, just enough to have him fall asleep and they did the test and then he woke up and was back to himself in a few hours-

  • GIa had a 72 hour videoed EEG when she was 14 months old. We were at the hospital the entire time. She also had a sleep deprived one prior to that. The worst part was getting the leeds put on. I didn't think she would be able to sleep with her head all wrapped up but she did. We were in the room for all of it so they could capture as much as possible on video. If someone knows how to post a picture, I can't remember how, I can post one of her with the leeds and hat on. There was also a bag with a battery in it that needed to move with her. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

  • As far as I know she won't be sedated for either.

I have pictures of her from when she had the video EEG done at 2 months old.  I honestly hate looking at them.  We have the regular EEG on Monday in the dr's office so we'll see how that one goes.  We are waiting for the insurance to approve the video one.

Was she allowed to move around and stuff, or did she have to just sit in her bed?
