dog bites news anchor

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/cutline/rescued-dog-bites-nbc-anchor-face-during-feel-141755422.html

I don't know if this has been posted yet. This is sad, and pretty much completely the news anchor's fault, but i'm sure it will be seen as fuel for the never ending bully breed fire.

It makes me sick to my stomach. I really really really hate when things like this happen

Re: dog bites news anchor

  • I saw it and was going to post it but then didn't. It makes me sick too. WTH would you get in 1) a strange dogs face (2) a dog that's just been through something traumatic (3) not even be paying attention while petting the dog? It's ridiculous and people in the comments section were saying that it's the owners fault for not telling the lady to stay out of the dog's face.
  • Gosh, i'm just so over all the publicized crap. when i saw the heading to the article i was like PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this be a lab, or a doodle of some kind, or ANYTHING other than a bully breed. and when i opened the article and saw the dog's face my heart just sank. I'm really upset over this for some reason, even more than i usually am about articles that are similar in nature.

I just think it's terrible that this poor dog had such a rough experience, then they put him in an unfamiliar place with people he doesnt know, and cameras, and then get in his face, and he SHOWED HIS TEETH, and she STILL didn't back up, and then it's all the dog's fault.

I love my dogs like they are my children, but for God's sake, they're ANIMALS. they will react out of fear in situations like this, and it's HUMANS' jobs to not be fuvcking idiots about these things.

And now the dog is sitting in a shelter in quarantine. and the owner is getting fined, and the anchor had to have surgery, and it's just a SHlTTY situation all around.

  • It was posted yesterday.

It also ended up on today's edition of the Bizarre File on the morning radio show I listen to. It made sick that they put it on there. I want to write them e-mail so badly that this "attack" as the news anchor's own fault for getting right up in the face of a dog that she doesn't know/doesn't know her right after it went through a traumatic experience.

Honestly, people, how little common sense do you all have?!

  • I live about an hour north of Denver and watch this new station often. They have actually been REALLY responsible (although they talk about it 3-4 times during an hour newscast, which is getting old) about talking about it. They brought in a dog behavioralist who pretty much said that it was Kyle's (the news anchor) fault because the dog was showing lots of stress signs like panting, pulling away and licking lips. They haven't been calling it an attack, they have just been saying "bite". They also haven't made a big deal out of the breed (which I am shocked about) other than saying it was a big dog. The dog is in quaratine, but just because the owner had no proof of rabies vaccine. I do have problem with the fact that he was cited for having a dog off leash cause I'm guessing they told him to take the leash off for the segment. But the dog was off leash for the falling in the lake incident, so maybe that's what the ticket was from? I just hope that when Kyle comes back she owns up to the fact that it was her fault and the whole community gets a lesson on dog behavior and what not to do.

I saw this story on the today show this morning--ditto above, that is totally how they were talking about it. And the today show ran the clip of the behaviorist, which I thought was great. They also concluded saying the station is "Revisting its policies of how their staff approaches and handles animals"

Thank GOD people might actually learn something positive from all this! That poor Mastiff. He goes through nearly drowning in freezing water, and now he's locked up in quarantine because some bimbo news anchor was too clueless to leave him alone. He must be so sad!

yes I'm glad as well that they are using this to educate people, not just crucify a large population of dogs.

Exactly. I'm really shocked actually since Denver has an ugly breed ban in place that they aren't harping on that, but so far so good!

This is what I was thinking!

I was taught from a very young age that you do not go in a strange dog's face. Ever. I brushed it off until I got nipped by a relative's cocker spaniel. Scared the crap out of me but I didn't even tell anyone because I knew it was my own fault.

  • I live in Denver, and while there has been a ton of activity on social media regarding this incident, I hardly hear any comment about it being the dog's fault.  People are blaming the anchor, the news station for bringing in an already-stressed dog, and the owner.

On the radio this morning, I wanted to nut punch one of the radio guys.  He is an idiot, saying it is a dog and it was reverting to instinct (true) and since it can't be trained it needs to be gone (idiot part).  We use our mouths to communicate, and so do dogs.  The dog gave obvious warnings, and the radio guy did not know how to read them and said the bite was unprovoked (idiot again).  He then went on to say we need to control dogs better so when kids run up to them, there will be no danger.  True, we need to leash our dogs especially when we know they might not react calmly.  But, more importantly, we need to teach kids not to just run up to a dog, but rather ask permission from the owner to approach or pet the dog.  My dog is super kind to kids luckily, but if a kid comes up without asking, I say something.  My dog is mean to other dogs, so she is kept on a short leash, and when strange dogs run up, I reprimand the owner (had a mean dog approach my dog and he wouldn't get off my dog).

Anyway, I veered off topic a bit, but the radio guy p!ssed me off.  Yes it is an animal and can be unpredictable if you are not familiar with animals, so stay away!  Don't just run up to it; even if it is a normally friendly pet, it can still be startled and react scarily.

I saw similar comments. Some people just like to assume any sort of aggression is related to pit. Annoys the crap outta me.

DH texted me this am saying 'did you hear dog bit news anchor', and my heart dropped an my immediate thought was 'pllllease don't let it be a pit.'

I'm glad that Kyle is going to be fine, but I'll be pretty upset if they decide to do anything bad to the dog. He was clearly showing signs of anxiety, and I believe they had a dog expert out to analyze the situation and stated that Kyle shouldn't have been so close to his face during that time.

  • I feel really bad for the anchor. She used to occasionally come to the place where I tended bar and have a drink after work, and she was always so friendly and pleasant. No getting around it, that was an incredibly bone-headed move on her part. In addition to the trauma of the previous day, I can only imagine how the dog felt with all those people and their equipment looming over him. But I do hope she's OK, and they updated just now saying that the dog will be able to go home after his quarantine ends. I was seriously worried they'd put him down.

I was too, in fact the first article I read yesterday said that he would probably be euthanized. I'm so glad to hear that he won't be! Hopefully this leads to some better awareness of proper interactions with dogs.

Sounds good to me! :) The morning show drives me crazy, I don't know why I even flip to it sometimes. They are all awful! I used to listen to Jamie when she was with Danny (the partridge family guy) and she annoyed me then too! They're lucky they have Slacker and Steve or I wouldn't listen to Alice at all!

  • The neighbor said he had never seen the dog act violent before...and now this happens, and they say it's the dogs fault, but it was just recovering from a traumatic experience!! This breaks my heart!!!

And the owner was holding the leash and STILL got cited?! NOT ok!

Is Howie the one with the higher voice? If so, he drives me nuts. I've heard him announce more than once that he's a really intelligent guy. Uh, yeah, could have fooled me.

Yes, that's him! BJ has a deeper voice and has his moments, but he is willing to learn.  Shall we meet at the studio in the morning and knock some sense into him? There's too much skull for one person to get through.

100% exactly right.  Including why do I turn to them in the morning AND Jamie&Danny.  Remember Jamie, Frosty and Frank?!
