Daytime potty breaks

Due to the nature of MHs job, he is able to work from home during the winter 2x/week. The other 3 days a week I or the dog walker let's them out around lunchtime.
Come spring & summer, DH is not able to work at home.
I'd like the dogs to be able to hold it until I come home. It's difficult to go home for lunch everyday. Sometimes things come up at work & becomes difficult to take a full hour for lunch.
Would it be unfair to have the dogs hold it on some days but not others? I feel like I should be consistent. Either let them out at lunchtime everyday, or don't.
I'm not sure if this is making sense. Please ask me questions to clarify if its not.

  • How long is the day if you don't come home for lunch?

  • We don't have the same schedule every day and my dog has been fine with it.  One day a week I am home, sometimes DH works a shorter day, and sometimes we have a dog walker.

  • Next question... Should I transition them to no lunch breaks. Maybe take them out at different times so they aren't relying on a noontime break?

  • I think your idea of being consistent is a good one - it will be more fair to them to know their schedule.  Maybe you can start transitioning them now - let them out at 2:00 instead of noon for a couple months, then move it to 4:00, etc., then you'll know they'll be ok until you get home.

Or why not just have the dog walker come every day?

  • My dog walker is a friend, who's also a college student. Her school schedule doesn't allow her to come everyday.

I suppose I could hire a 'real' dog walker, but I noticed in one of the other posts that many people leave their dogs for a full day. It made me wonder if that's a possibility for my dogs.

    Just thinking about other possibilities.
