Best place you've had dinner recently?
I asked on Facebook over the weekend and still can't decide where to go on Sat night - just Frank and me for my birthday. Anywhere in Northern NJ or NYC, or Rockland.
Any places you've been to lately that you'd recommend? I think I'm leaning more toward a lively atmosphere rather than quiet and romantic, but again, can't decide!

I'm actually going there with girlfriends in a few weeks...love the one in the meatpacking district but haven't been there in a while, so I'm excited!

It's reallllly nice, you'll have fun. Its a good place for celebrity-spotting.
We really liked the food at Novocento in Soho. It's an Argentine restaurant.

in Rockland, I'm always happy at Lanterna Tuscan Bistro in Nyack or Kumo in New City. There's also a Kumo in Pearl River - same people, but I hear the vibe is a bit different, but as good. Also, love Union in Haverstraw.
My favorite restaurants:
Jersey City: Soul Flavors, Madame Claude's Cafe (both are BYOB), Edward's Steakhouse, Laico's
Rutherford (town is BYOB): Paisano's (make a reservation), Sabor Peru. Friends have raved about Cafe Mattise but we haven't been there yet ... it's $$$$$, apparently.
Newark: Taste of Portugal
West Orange: Sweet Basil's Cafe has gotten great online reviews, and we had a delicious breakfast there. We haven't had dinner there yet, though, but every time we pass by it's packed.
My two favorites in NJ: THe Lighthorse Taverne in Jersey City, so good.

And I love this place in Montclair, it used to be Gencarellis, same owners they just changes the name, they have this award winning spinach, mushroom lasagna that I love, love.

It may be too far west but the Mohawk House in Sparta.
The dining room is relatively quiet & romantic but the bar is party central on the weekends, especially when there is a good band.
Grato in Morris Plains hands down. Seriously the best most authentic Italian since I was in Italy in September. The small bar has a nice little atmosphere and the restaurant itself is a little busy but quiet...... Two weeks ago we went and we reserved the only hi top small table by the bar and it was perfect. Bar atmosphere like but without eating AT the bar and amazing full menu. We have been there twice now in the last 6 months.
My favorites are the Bucatini & Meatballs, Fettuccine Carbonara (with a real fried egg on top TO DIE FOR) and Linguine e Vongole.

Beauty & Essex was where my company holiday party was!
I actually looked into Abe & Arthur but they're booked.

My friends are in an STK phase right now but, we just went to Eros (greek) in Rutherford and I liked it. I've also been to Mambo Tea House (cuban) in Rutherford.
What's up with Rutherford as a hot restaurant spot?
DH got me a gc to Due Mari in New Brunswick for Xmas and I can't wait to go. Plus, my sorority sister's husband is the chef there!
We went to Due Mari for a special dinner in October and we LOVED it. So delicious.
