What do you use for post-processing of food photos?

Photoshop?  Lightroom?  Picnik?  Flickr?  The GIMP?  Picasa?  Something else?  Or do you not do any post-processing?

Philandclaire and I are presenting at BlogHer Food on free post-processing software programs.  We're both familiar with the GIMP, but we want to know what other programs are popular so we know which to focus on.  Knowing which programs you guys use would help us out a lot!

Re: What do you use for post-processing of food photos?

  • I use Lightroom, but before I shelled out the $ for it, I used GIMP.  Loved GIMP, but the lack of user-friendly tutorials was a bit frustrating.
  • Right now, Picnik, but it's going away in April (well it's going to be rolled into g+ and I really have no idea what that means or how it will work), soooo I need to figure out something else.

Exactly this.  I have your GIMP instructions, Bridget.  I plan on really digging in on those during my flights to and from Italy.

Right now, we're planning to focus on Picnik as one of the most popular free processing programs.  We're crossing our fingers it stays similar to its current format once it becomes part of Google+.

    This

  • Picnik...just started to figure out Lightroom. It's not very user-friendly :(
  • I also use Picnik. I read somewhere that the Windows Live Gallery is pretty similar. I tried it and its not as user friendly as Picnik and doesn't offer some of the same things, but its not bad.

Same here - hoping it will be easy to figure out once it's on Google+

This now but I used to use Photoshop.  I switched because Picasa/Picnik seems to have more automatic fixes that make photos look decent while Photoshop is overkill.  I also found that, because of all the options, it was easier to change a little here and change a little there and all of a sudden my photos looked over-processed and unrealistic in Photoshop compared to Picnik.

  • Picnik. Which sucks, because that means I need to use/learn something else and I'm fairly stupid with computer programs. :(
  • Lightroom. Love it.

I've used GIMP before and still do occasionally.

  • Congrats you guys, I'm so happy for you!

I am using Picnik. I ordered a copy of Lightroom but haven't had time to take it out of the box yet. I've never even heard of GIMP so I'll have to check that out - thanks!

  • I use Lightroom now but I used to use Picasa and Picnik.  They were both super simple to use.
  • I use Iphoto because I have a Mac.
  • Reading this post has helped me understand that I clearly have no clue what I'm doing! Embarrassed

Me too!  But now I'm curious if I can get better results by trying one of these other programs, or if my photos just suck overall and no program will help! Stick out tongue

  • I pretty much stick to the minimal post-processing available on iPhoto, which is pretty obvious from my photos.  HA!  I'd love to learn a little more about ANY post-processing that is (1) easy to learn and (2) cheap or free.

You appear to be our target audience then!  :)

  • We (the photo portion of my blog is a joint venture between DH & I) use Aperture, but we're thinking about getting Lightroom.
  • I use Picasa.

  • Picnik, for now... I found Pixlr as another free option and may switch to that after Picnik goes away to G+ in April.
