anyone done a beaches vacation?

I'd like to do a nice vacation next summer and I was wondering how Beaches Resorts are.  Do they offer excursions?  DH is worried about being harassed the whole time we're there, he and I used to cruise alot and as soon as you got off the ship there would be people trying to sell something, I wouldn't think it would be like that at a resort.  Are there many activities foe a 1 and 3 year old?  Would you spend a week or is a long weekend enough?  We never did a resort before because we thought we'd get bored being in 1 place, but I don't want to cruise with 2 little kids.

Re: anyone done a beaches vacation?

  • We went to Beaches in turks and caicos for a week and it was awesome- We loved just about every minute- The flight was fine, Mikey slept some, but did cry a bit. We get there get our bags and hop on the transfer- We get to our village, we stayed int he French Village- and get our room- We get in and immediately, I am disappointed and worried. I was nervous cause Cara did say the other villages were dumpy, besides the Italian Village. So, now I was in panic mode- We opted for the French to be close to the water park, and because it was the week before Christmas we wanted to save some money. The room itself was fine, but there was an awful and super strong musty mildew smell. I am very sensitive to smells, but Mike and Kieran both noticed it as soon as we walked in too. We called the front desk and they upgraded us and moved us immediately. It was almost like they knew the room had issues especially since there was dehumidifier running in the 1st room and not in the second, and it was not humid at all there. We get to our new room with a patio and it is very nice- Clean, well maintained and no smell at all. We opted for a regular room since Kieran sleeps like a horse when he is tired and so does Mikey and again in an effort to be money savvy right before Christmas. If we were to go at another time of the year we probably would upgrade to a suite of some kind.

We loved the French Village, the pool was fantastic and Kieran and Mikey had a blast in it- it was heated, the one that wasn't was in the Caribbean village and the water park was not. The staff were all very attentive and really loved the kids. Kieran won a pool game and when they asked him his name they joked and said Kiwi, so for the rest of the week he was kiwi and Mike was mr. Kiwi since Mikey was napping at the time I was relaxing in the cabana. It was not very busy and I am sure that helped too. The food was decent, some was eh, but not awful and some was good, but not fantastic. We did really enjoy the place on the beach called barefoot, where you eat at fancy picnic tables int he sand. and an Italian place Marios. Now, Mike and I like food and good food at that- I was worried about Mike since he sometimes is hard to adapt to different foods and he was fine all week- the breakfast buffets were very good. Lunch was the hard meal.

Kieran loved the shows and Mikey was a dancing fool.

The water park was great- just enough for Mikey, Kieran and us.

Kieran went to camp a few times and loved it- We used it 3 mornings and one evening- When they had stuff going on that Kieran wanted to do and we got him when he said he was done, we really let him lead his time there. He was on the young end of his group- but he met a few boys that were 7 and had fun. The counselors were really great too-

Mikey went and the first time cried off and on for the entire 1.5 hours he was there. image, but the second and third time he cried at drop off but then they said he had a blast in the sand and pool. THey had a special baby pool out of the sun and heated in the daycare area, just for the little kids. We also used it for one evening to go to an adult only dinner and he ate there and they said he ate up a storm and then fell asleep on his little bean mattress. They were great, give you a phone to be called on if you need to be.

We were happy with the camps and feel we used it just enough, not too much, not never. We were there for a family trip, but wanted to relax a bit too. Once we put Mikey in and kept Kieran to go the beach and be in the water since Mikey hates the ocean. Some kids were in all day all night though.

The only thing that I saw and judged, was that at the pool one day I saw a couple drinking in the pool(normal) but had a baby monitor and were going back and forth to the room to check on said baby every so often. I could never do that- especially after that kidnapping in Europe a few years back. You just never know and I don't think there room was that close to the pool, not that it could be far. But other then that, I never raised an eye cause we were just having so much fun! We totally want to go back! Probably not until Mikey is 3, but Kieran loved it and said it was the best vacation ever.

    I highly recommend it-
