My dog still smells, even on a grain free diet
Awhile back I wrote about my rat terrier Mandy. She had an aweful smell and was losing hair. She got better after I put her on a grain free diet.
Now it has started again. She is licking her paws and losing hair on them and her chest and she smells a few hours after I bath her. I feed her TOTW, her treats right now are Greenies Pill pockets in duck and I bath her in a shampoo with tea tree oil. I also had her thyroid tested and she is on medicine for that. I just don't know what to do now. If you have any questions for me I will try to answer them promptly. Thanks

Re: My dog still smells, even on a grain free diet
I think Greenies pill pockets still contain wheat flour, so I would switch those to something else. We like Nature's Variety Instinct biscuits and Pet Greens Dog Biscuits.
Also, what variety of TOTW are you feeding her? It could be that she is allergic to something else that might have been in both foods - Chicken or another protein maybe. I'd compare the ingredients of the two foods (New and Old) and see if any of them overlap.
I hope you find a solution soon for your itchy girl!
The bolded parts were my first thoughts. I'd be interested to know what variety of TOTW she is eating. I know for sure the Salmon is chicken free but some of their others DO have chicken in them so check for that. Also, not sure where you live and if there is snow and ice but sometimes after going for a walk I wipe our dog's paws off with a sensitive (no dyes or perfume) baby wipe to get any salt and other stuff off of them.
I know you said she is losing hair, which wouldn't be from this but are you sure the smell isn't from full anal glands? If her anal glands are full no amount of shampoo or wiping down can hide that smell!

I agree - yeast or even a bacterial skin infection. I had a problem w/ my dog smelling recently, and it turns out he'd gotten some flea bites, scratched them, and opened his skin up to infection. He's on antibiotics now.
The paw licking and hair loss really indicates a possible yeast problem.
Also, we had a similar problem last year that ended up being a mildew problem. Make sure your dog is getting completely dry after baths, and sun drying is the best way to ensure mildew is killed.
