Is this normal? J goes to a "chain" day care so I would think they get money that way, I dont think it's a franchise or anything like that. I don't know what they could be using the money for from it. I was thinking of asking at pick up, or am I over thinking this? LOL
Re: Fundraisers at day care?
our school has them from time to time, but not even one a year. it's been to cover a shortfall - they wanted rubber mulch on the playgrounds but didn't have enough to cover the full amount and they fundraised for them.
from what i understand, the corporate head office isn't a fan of this, so they use it sparingly.
of course, scholastic is a school fundraiser and we get that every other month and sometimes we buy and sometimes we don't - but it isn't as obvious as selling giftwrap or cookie dough.
I posted the same thing 4 years ago. LOL.
Anyway, we have a parent organization that runs fundraisers and now that I subscribe to the emails I see where the money goes. It goes to things like: buying pumpkins for each kid to paint at Halloween, funding the pre-k graduation (and party), funding a parents night out, funding a couple events a year, etc.
I personally never reach out to others to buy stuff for our fundraisers because I don't feel right doing it, but I do buy books from the bookfair etc.
The one time the school itself ran a fundraiser they were clear in telling us it was for the purchase of a smart board for the pre-k class.
On the one hand we pay tuition. On the other hand they can't raise tuition for all these extras because people can't afford it.
I'm also not sure that daycare is the cash cow you think it is. Do the math on what you pay per hour. Then take like 50% out for liability insurance costs alone....
Alexis goes to Tutor Time, and no - no fundraisers. My friend sends her kids to a smaller, family-run type place and they do them like 2 or 3 times a year... granted they're for 'legitimate' things (new playground equipment, etc.) - I pay enough in tuition and think that should cover what the school needs to "operate".
The only thing I pay extra for is the summer camp fee, if I want to enroll her in dance class (they do it 1x/week in the fall and the spring), or if I want to buy Scholastic books.
Just got the email from school so I must have been the only one wondering. It is to offset the cost of their summer activities so the families dont have to pay as much. I think last year it was like $95 for summer stuff.
i wonder if this is my day acre since we have to do exactly this 2x a year...except it's w
150 bars of chocolate for each kid so right now we have 300 bars to sell but it needs to be taken into consideration that the school provides bfast, lunch, snacks and even formula...for 750 a month - 650 if your kid is potty trained...what we paid for B just to attend one year in a chain is more than what we are paying for two will all the food
