Moms ... teething question

C is only 3.5 months, so I know it would be on the early side for him to actually cut a tooth right now, but when did you notice the teething process starting?

C drools incessantly (as in can soak through a bib in 10 minutes), he is constantly putting his fingers in his mouth and wrapping them over his lower gums, or chewing on his bib, and then last night when I had him on tummy time he had his bib in and out of his mouth and about 3 times in a row it came out with a spot of blood on it.  I checked his hands for cuts and, as best I could, the inside of his mouth and couldn't see anything that would indicate where the blood came from. the way the bib was in his mouth it seemed that the blood was somewhere from the lower half of his mouth.  (His 4 month appointment isn't for 2 more weeks for me to consult with the Dr.)

Re: Moms ... teething question

  • Brody was about 4.5 months when his first tooth broke through the skin, but he had the teething symptoms about a month before that...and almost exactly what you described.

  • S seemed like she was cutting teeth about 2 weeks ago... she was screaming in pain. Her gums were not inflammed but I think they were coming thru way down below. She has been drooling since about 3 months and chewing constantly on things.

I ordered an amber teething necklace to see if that will help with her pain (i have a hazelwood/ amber one currently but to see if a pure amber one will be better for teething).

  • They've both been chewing on things (their hands, toys, bibs) for about 2 months now and no sign of teeth. Interesting about the blood! I think they're drooly too, but then I see babies at daycare who drool like faucets...
  • P got his first two teeth the same day, and it was before thanksgiving (we remember teasing him that he couldn't have turkey unless he got teeth and they showed up a couple of days before! he still didn't get turkey ha ha).  So he was just about 4.5 months.  He had teething symptoms by 3 months, I'd say.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies!  Maybe I am not so off-base thinking that he might be starting the teething business (just not yet ready to be cutting teeth)
